New to keto

Hello. I’m Jennifer. Today is my first day on keto and I’m so confused. Please help. How much protein and fat should I aim for to lose????

    That depends greatly on how much your body needs. For getting into ketosis (a fat burning mode) the main objective is to reduce your carb intake to 20g or less. The first thing the body will do is use up the carbs stored in the muscle cells first, once those are depleted the liver will start to use up its stored reserves of glucose. Once all of those reserves are essentially depleted the liver will start to process fat and produce ketones for the cells to use as energy.

    It can take some people a few days to work through all of the glucose reserves so the less new glucose that enters the body through carbohydrates the better.

    The general rule of thumb for overall calories is: 
    70% - from fat
    20%  - from protein
    10% - carbohydrates
