Do Calories Matter?

HI

I Am coming up to a week on keto and surprising doing well.. Not many side affects and loosing weight.

I am still getting use to putting together meals and fitting them in around work but i am short on my calories. I am still finding other things to eat but i am only getting around 800 to 1000 calories a day but reaching my fat, protein and carbs counts.

Is this a issue?.. If so could you could please provide info on foods that will help.

Thanks

Hi, yes calories do matter.  To lose weight you must create a calorie deficit without going into starvation mode.  The lowest recommended calorie intake for women is 1200 per day.  If you consistently go lower, you risk stalling your metabolism.

As far as what foods you should eat, try to balance your Macros to your daily goals? Add protein if under, try to stay within 10 grams of goal.  Also, add healthy fats if under such as avocado, eggs, olive, coconut and sesame oil,  full fat dairy, low carb nuts.

Gina does it matter how many calories in the other direction. I seem to be eating around 1500 per day. Can woman lose weight taking in more than 1200 a day. Is that ok?

Cbigbie Yes calories matter.  You must create a calorie deficit by burning more calories than you consume.  The amount of calories your body burns depends on many variables such as gender, age, activity level, current weight, height etc.  There are many calorie calculators online to determine the amount of calories you burn per day by calculating your basal metabolic rate (BMR is the calories your body  burns by simply being alive) multiplied by your activity level.

Calories matter no matter which diet/WOE is being used. Some believe that if your macros are calculated properly, the calorie intake will be correct.  1 gram of protein = 4 calories, 1 gram of fat = 9 calories, 1 gram of carb = 4 calories.  In my case, my macros work out to be 252 calories of protein, 801 calories of fat and 80 grams of carbs for 1133 calories.  I am 60 so get fewer calories.
