Hi Tonks!  I'm a T2 diabetic as well and am 2 weeks into keto dieting.  I want to lose 25 pounds and get my A1C down below 5.5 if possible in the next year.

I'm insulin pump dependent and want to get off of it!  In the last 2 weeks, I have already been able to stop my metformin!!  This is because of my fasting blood sugar being too low in the morning!

My advice would be to watch your blood sugar very closely while on keto.  Work with your Dr to adjust medication appropriately.

Let's keep in touch and support each other!  Diabetes sucks and I want to reverse it for good!

You can do it! I started with Keto the end of October, not hard core but worked on eliminating major carbs - didn't track. Was on Trulicity, glipizide and metformin. Have had bloodwork done twice since then and each time I got to eliminate something. No longer taking Trulicity or glipizide,  and only 2 metformin. My sugar remains low with each change. Next test is in May, hope to be off medication by the end of summer.

Hi thanks for your reply, yeah you’re right it does suck, but I’ve accepted it now, my weight has always been up and down so it was always going to catch up with me☹️ I can’t do the moderation thing lol so I’ve stopped all sugar anything sweet not even any artificial sweeteners, I’m doing ok at the moment but good to keep in touch 😃👍

Hi Tonks, I am 1 week into Keto. I am Type 2 and take metformin once a day.  My goal is to get off of this medicine and others that I take.  Good luck on your journey

  • I’m on day two of Keto and am a type 2 diabetic. I want to get off glimepiride but I hear metformin is good to stay on. Supposedly it’s a great longevity medicine and good for cardiovascular preservation.

  • Hello, I also currently have Type 2 diabetes.  I have been on the keto diet for almost 3 weeks. The first week I started with 30 net carbs and may glucose levels stayed with in the 80’s during fasting and would go up to about 132 during my eating periods.  Side bar....Please check your glucose levels to make sure you do not drop to low. Moving on...During this time, I was taking Victoza and Invokamet 2x daily (it’s metformin and invoka put together in one pill) to manage my levels. In the first week the doctor okayed me to remove the Victoza. The second week I added exercise and started retaining water, so I started Intermittent Fasting the 3rd week.  I for two days I did a 16 hours fast. Eating window stopped and 8pm to about 12/12:30pm...  When you start fasting your glucose start dropping and burning fat that is stored in your body.  Well mine dropped down to 59.  I consulted with my doctor and we are trying taking Invokamet once a day instead of 2 times a day. To make a long story short, keep at it. The results will show in your blood work.
