Tracking Ketosis level

So i try to always measure with the urine strip test to make sure I am still in Ketosis, however it gives different results, one day i was on the 40 mg/dL stage (moderate) but yesterday and today i went down to 15 mg/dl (low). how can i increase my level to the 80mg/dl stage (high)?  I was doing research and saw some people use Keto supplements, does this help? I am definitely eating the right foods but i haven't started working out yet because of exams (ends tomorrow , thank God).

  • The pee strips are unreliable. In the beginning you will be all over the map as far as a level of ketosis but the longer you keto the less reliable they are. It  doesn't matter how deep.you get as long as you are in. I wouldn't waste money on keto supplements.  Keep the carbs low track everything and the pounds will fall

Ingesting the "keto supplements" artificial raises your ketone levels. Yes you have more ketones in your bloodstream but that's because you ingested them, not because your body made them which is the real goal.

Also most cells will opt for glucose over ketones if they are available, so having normal or elevated blood sugar and ketones isn't going to make you lose weight any faster.

The liver will produce ketones and glucose when there are no or few carbs to convert.

The only possible use I could see for ingesting ketones would be in the early stages of getting into ketosis, more so if you are fasting, because:

    A. Your body is not effective at using ketones yet

    B. Your body is not as effective as it will be at producing ketones

It might help relieve some of the keto-flu by providing extra "fuel" for your cells while they adapt to using and producing ketones more efficiently.

As to the pee strips, as the previous answer alluded to; as your body becomes more fat adapted, it will waste less of the ketones.

Early on your body is inefficient at using the ketones and a lot of the ketones it makes get peed out, hence the reading on the pee stick.

As previously stated,  the strips can be unreliable.  I read that the best way to get an accurate level of ketosis is by buying a glucometer/ketone monitor. It's like a diabetes glucometer. It tests your blood
