Hello

Hi all. I am a retired 50 year old Marine that tips the scales at 307 pounds currently. Did Keto over the summer, lost 30 pounds, then gave up on myself. I am back again and hoping for good this time.

Semper Fi, Mac!  63-year old retired Marine here.

You’ve come to the right place - lots of folks here ready to lend a hand with useful tips and encouragement.

I started back in Oct 2019 at 265-lbs with A1C of 7.7.  Now I’m 200-lbs and 5.0 and off all meds.   It works, but just preparing for a PFT or CAX, you have to put in the work.

Keep the faith and we’ll look forward to reading of your outstanding success.

Pat F have to change my name from TK to Tom K. I used the app last time and did well in short order. My love of beer did me in and I gave up. Now I need to lower blood pressure, glucose, and drop 70 pounds. I do not need to get back to fighting weight of 185, but walking around at 220-240 would take a ton of stress off of my hips and knees. Maybe I can delay the hip replacements for a long time.

I am willing to do the work and have the time. CAX at 29 Palms, sucked. ;)

    Semper Fi my friend!

I was at Two-Niner Papa from 87-91 (deployed to the First Gulf War as part of 3d Light Armored Infantry Battalion (Task Force Lima - then TF Shepherd)

this is TRULY a good app.

I track Total Carbs (at or below 18), and am reading a TON of medical based books to work my way through all the info that’s out there.

I’ve found it best to (in no particular order):

    1. Track Total Carbs: net carbs allow too many ‘dinks in the wire’ and every little bit that leaks in only weakens your progress.

    2. Stay busy - keep moving

    3. No snacks - ever.  One of the KEY requirements of keto is to give your body a break and allow it time to burn off the fats stored as a result of meals.  If we snack in between (or after) meals, our food intake can easily tally five-six times a day.  All this does is cause a continual glucose/insulin spike and that results in insulin resistance (which in turn drive fat into storage).   Refraining from snacks is necessary for burning fat stores.

    4. No alcohol (just me - it makes me want snacks too much: see #2, above)

    5. Fasting is your friend.  It’s necessary to give your body a chance to burn off the fat that was stored as a result of eating.  I’ve worked myself up to a 96-hr pass (LOL) about once a month.  HUGE results there.

    6.  Read all you can: there are lots of excellent informative readings out there.  I can send a list of what I’ve read if you want.

I’m still learning, but very much enjoying the process.

    Semper,

    Pat

Pat F I am tracking total carbs, trying to stay busy beating the shit out of the drums but need to incorporate more walking into my day, I do not snack, can't say the same for my wife though, because it defeats the purpose of "dieting", I gave up the booze the first of the year and am happy to wake up not hungover, I stop eating at 6 pm and eat breakfast at 12 pm, and am still learning. I am sticking to what worked over the summer then tweaking it so that I continue to lose tons. I try to read everything I can find to ensure success this time around.

I was stationed at Kaneohe Bay Hawaii with Fox Battery 2/12 and also did 7 months and 10 days in the sand box in 90-91. We shot artillery for everybody that called us.

    Always!

Hello! Welcome back to Keto - sounds like you know what to do, and have the motivation to restart your journey. And THANK YOU for your service! As someone who comes from a military family and whose birthday is November 10, I have a special place in my heart for the USMC. Best wishes!!!
