Low carb and low fat

Because of diabetes A1c of 10 and arteriosclerosis in the brain I chose to adapt CM to fill 2 needs low carb low fat. In 1 month I have lost 18lbs. I havent had blood test yet but I fell great and full of energy so i think its working daily gluecose readings are great. I won't recommend this but it feels good to me.

Hi Larry, sounds like you've gone vegan to me.  Is it sustainable? I would recommend upping the fats because ketogenic diet relies on them for fuel.  If your body runs out of fats it will freak out and store them, and you'll still just be burning carbs and going down the rabbit hole.  Trust in the ketogenic diet.  Carbs will worsen arteriosclerosis as they stiffen arteries, but the body burns them as they're easiest low-hanging fruit as they say.  The idea is to teach your brain that it has enough fats supply coming in that it doesn't need to be like costco and store what little fats you consume for emergency use...I say follow the carb manager 5% carbs 70 fats and 25 protein to perfect health.  And no I have no degree but I did learn incessantly for 9 months from nightly lectures.  While I agree with a vegan diet in principle, I worry a lot that it doesn't teach your body to burn away the excess fats and you'll wind up with clogged arteries all over the place down the road.  Just my 2 cents.  Remember doctors were trained to believe that fats were the enemy.  Forgetting that your brain is actually made of fats and to restrict them is to restrict it's ability to repair and sustain itself.  That one amazes me.  Good luck hope you stay well!

  • Hi Larry, I am in a similar situation and didn't see an option to adjust both carbs and fats. Wondering how you're doing after 2 months?

That sounds like a great plan. If we want to lose weight, the goal would be for our body to rely on  our own stored fat for fuel.... not waste time utilizing a bunch of excess, unnecessary fat we eat.  It's great to have extra  fat getting started... to make it easy to change from carb burning to fat burning...  but once your body switches to fat burning mode.... the more fats you eat, the less of your own body fat you will burn!  You will lose more weight and it makes sense that because our bodies are so wise... they will search out all the excess stored fat in all the nooks and crannies... to use for energy. Once we get to our desired weight... then a few more fats and healthy, whole carbs could be introduced!
