  • I track both because they are both helpful.

  • I track both as well now. I stay at 16 net carbs or less and never exceed 30-35 total carbs per day.    Rarely do I ever go over 20 total carbs though.

In the beginning I didn’t do this but I’ve found that this works best for me.

I’ve read on the book Keto Zone Diet that it has to be net carbs. Total carbohydrates minus total fiber= net carbs

Track both but total carbs is more important. Even though fiber is an undigestible form of carbs I would be careful about getting into a mind set of eating more carbs just because you ate more fiber.

Hi, I seem to go over my net carb of 16. Is that acceptable as long as we don’t go over 20-30 net carb? It seems I eat food high in carbs when it’s keto food.

Hi, you know honestly I’m unsure.  I think that if you’re still losing weight eating that many net carbs and you can achieve ketosis why not.

On the other hand if you’re not than I’d try more keto friendly foods to help reduce the number of carbs you’re eating daily. I had to do this because unfortunately I’m not that lucky to be able to eat many carbs as it brings my weight loss to a standstill.

I hope that helps but maybe  some one else will have a better answer? I’m still new to keto too as I’ve been only doing this for a little while too.

  • I believe total would be best but in real life- its usually net tracked. I find it is helpful for me to use a carb blocker to help me stay in ketosis!

It depends.  How much weight do you need to lose? Have any health problems like insulin resistance, diabetes, heart issues, CFS, other autoimmune issues, etc?

If so, my research has shown me that we need to track total carbs and keep them less than 20 total grams/day until we reach ideal weight. Then, reassess.
