Carb count inaccurate!

Why is the same food put in multiple times with different carb counts? I don't trust this app to correctly count carbs. Anyone else had this problem and what did you do about it?

  • We do our absolute best to keep our database as accurate as possible and stand behind the accuracy of all of our Common Foods, which have been verified by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the University of Minnesota (NCCDB).

    Our branded and restaurant foods are licensed from a number of sources. Because these types of foods change frequently, we are sometimes left with outdated information. We are working each day to improve the database, but some foods may not be found or have inaccuracies.

    The third source for foods/recipes in the database is User Contributions. As the name suggests, these are foods shared by the Carb Manager community and are therefore not verified.

    All branded foods and user contributions include the ability to report errors
    It's a great help if you report food errors. To do so, open the food, then tap the ⋮ button in the top right corner and select Report Error. In the fields that appear, you can enter the corrected nutrition information. Other users will then see that the food item has been reported as inaccurate, and they will be able to view the edits and choose to log the corrected food.

  • Please check the "source" and if  you're using food from the Carb Manager database, or a user contribution, or both. You can report food errors, within the food's window, at the bottom of the page. Also, please don't hesitate to contact support, Settings > Need Help?

    It happen to me too. I detailed add many products (custom) with right values taken from the labels and the app automatically change all of them to very  incorrects ones 😡

    Carb Manager

    1) I'm running into a similar issue currently with Tilapia.  Member's Mark Tilapia lists as significantly lower proteins than the NCCDB source verified database tilapia on a per ounce basis.  I've seen this with other foods.  I assume I should go with what the in-hand label says versus generic tilapia and I generally overcome these issues by copying foods that label match to "My Foods" and selecting from there before using foods from the database that don't match my label information. 

    2) I've also had differences in Branded Foods not matching the scanned UPC label.  Misspelled words are a good giveaway.  I'm guessing this is due to users adding Branded Foods, but the problem comes in because scanning UPC codes looks at the database first for these UPC codes.  Now if scanned UPC codes looked in "My Foods" for a matching UPC code before looking in the database, I could edit "My Foods",  including UPC code, and make sure I wasn't getting something someone else entered that doesn't match my in-hand product.  Or, include "My Foods" along with the database and give us a choice of all matching UPC codes.

  • I screen all my entries very carefully, if I  don't I find myself struggling to keep within or meet goal numbers that I have previously applied and were ok.  I very carefully entered a roasted pork belly recipe from Gordon Ramsey and it went in fine and entered correctly the first time, but the remaining entries were completely skewed and the portions had to be cut to 2 oz instead of the original 6. 

    Maybe a database clean up is in order? I'm having issues with the Macro finder and remaining macro's lately too. It recommends seal blubber and cheddar cheese, the same things no matter what, or items with insane carbs up to 4 times my daily. I mean really?

    I find this rediculous as well. Why can't we get one listing for one item? I'm currently trying to look up an item and there's several entries for it. Plus, the nutrition information for the item varies from the product I have. The product is "Cattlemen's Ranch Black Angus Bacon & Cheddar Cheese beef patties". While Carb Manager has one listing for it, it's entered as "Cattlemen's Ranch Black Angus Bacon Cheddar Beef Patties". Is there a reason why we can't get a correct item title. The nutrition info is slightly different for what's listed than I have on the box as well. Why? More than that, when I look at other people's entries for it, they all get the brand spelling wrong. Okay, not as big a deal but really people? Can't you spell? Makes me want to avoid people's entries altogether.

  • As a newbie to this app, this is good to know that user contributions cannot be trusted to be accurate. I think if I search for something and it doesn’t come up as an official app sourced entry, then I will just have to take the time to input all the details manually myself.... however I am then assuming this adds to the problem that the next time someone searches for said item, there would then be another user entry and no idea who has actually inputted the correct information. 
    is there a way that we can manually input our own entries but that they do not show up in searches unless they have been verified by the people who work on the app? 
    I think the only time I will use another’s user entry is if I am out and I don’t have nutritional labels to hand to be able to input. Then I guess a rough entry that hopefully is correct-ish is better than nothing.

    Hayley-Rose Hayley-Rose When you input an item into the database, you have the option to "Publish it to the database" publically. Just don't check the box on that option and you should be good. Your entries will be private.

    Same goes for scanned items. Always look and verify the nutritional information on the label matches what the scan finds in the database.

    Yes! Last night strawberries cake up as bad and today they came up as zero net carbs. It doesn’t make sense. I’m having other issues today as well.

    I find scanned items frequently don’t match the label with the first item in the database. However, if I keep looking down the list, or put in the name instead of scanning, eventually I’ll find the correct listing. You have to check everything. When I find the correct listing I save it to my foods, then use foods from that list, it’s safer doing it that way.

    I spent yesterday ca 4 hours checking my foods and 'creating' them from the begining, i.e. checking all ingredience with serious sources on the inernet, and even there were different amounts (of macros and micros)  with the same food on different platforms. But now I feel 'my foods' are more correct in numbers. I am afraid its the best method.

    Yes, I drink Starbuck's Nitro Cold Brew with Heavy Cream and it is listed as 6 grams and 1 gram.  Of course, I picked 1 gram.

    Yep my biggest issue with this app, inaccurate nutrient listing. Since anyone can add a food theres multiple listings and lots of incorrect ones. Need a verified nutrient info star for once verified.

    In comparing the avocado nutrition, I see the exact same nutrition information. What is different about the two images is that one of you is tracking total carbs and one of you is tracking net carbs.

  • I agree, there is an urgent need to clean up, and some way to review user entries before they make it into the database. Try Cantaloupe. There are dozens of entries. There is a  joker with the username of Aprilfools (or something like that) who entered cantaloupe at 0 carbs. Really?

    When you scan a product it doesn’t enter the correct info. Why??? How can that happen? Please explain this to me. I never had this problem with My Fitness Pal.
