Sorry, start again!  I have been doing keto for a while, (or so I thought!) but it was only when I found this app that I realised my carbs were way too high.  Only allowed 22 grams a day and a few nuts takes it way up.  How do you keep your carbs low enough?

  • I eat lots of veggies and keep track of my foods with this app. I research and i try to eat some nuts that have the lowest carb content (pecans, macadamia, nuts, almonds...) Also homemade soups help me a lot.

Are you in ketosis? Have you become fat adapted? Once you are you really shouldn’t get hungry and you can focus on great quality protein & fats adding a few low carb veg for sheer pleasure rather than to ‘fill you up’. My current favourite is a slow cooked Keto beef stew & a side of finely sliced Savoy cabbage which I simply season and knobs of butter & microwave for 3 minutes 😋 I also love romaine lettuce with cream cheese or without....

What are you currently using all your carbs on?

  • Hi, it is hard. I've been following the keto plan as best as I can but find 19g of carbs tough. I like the fact I don't get so hungry -it's a different feeling. Today, I blew my budget on a natural yogury and it was 8g gone in one hit!

stephanieedmonds77 I don't know why you are trying to keep it so low.  I am  at 27, still losing consistently at a level that I can live with but stay true,  losing between 1.5 to 2.5 lbs per week. Mostly just under 2 a week,

  • jhilliscpa hi, I just put in data to the goal calculator on the app and that is what ot came up with: 19g of carbs. The low carb diet comes up with a whopping 75g of carbs! Should I be choosing net or total carbs? Although I am not sure it makes a huge difference! Maybe net carbs is a little bit more lenient.

friesen.araya friesen.araya thanks! I think it’s milk and nuts that throws me off.

stephanieedmonds77 ,yeh me too! Even veggies bump it up.  Have been trying to fill up with green veggies, but it adds up.  At least I can do 22g not 19,

stephanieedmonds77 net carb I think.  It take into account the fibre as well which lowers the carb count.

Joanna  milk in tea and coffee and a few nuts I think.  Haven’t checked whether I’m in ketosis or not yet, I’m waiting on some keto stir in the mail.  I will be really interested to see.  Thanks.

We all need different levels of carbs. Some people’s metabolism is totally shot for many reasons, mine due to 41 yrs of yo-yo dieting ~ every method you have ever heard of and them some.... other people are extremely active. The numbers you get are just those, numbers. Testing blood ketones and blood glucose will give you an absolute number for you. Mine is currently 20g total carbs. I hope as my body recovers I can increase this to live a sustainable lifestyle that does not trigger my sugar & carbohydrates addictions. They are currently quiet 🙌

mcpher27  milk is full of sugar sorry ~ try unsweetened almond milk or a slice of lemon or herbal teas. You can have heavy cream ~ nuts are good but measured amounts even if you are vegetarian.

jhilliscpa you are fortunate indeed 😀👍🏻 that those extras are your numbers, I hope it won’t be too long before I can enrich my veg list. Your weight-loss is brilliant.  My average is 2.9lbs a week and I have 21lbs to goal so whilst my addictions are quiet I am not going to rock my boat 🚣

I aim for 25 netcarbs a day. Some great carb free options are celery with cream cheese, sunflower butter has a lower net carb so maybe try that for nut butter substitute. Hard boiled eggs are good option too

When I do my goals the app says I can only have 7 net carbs a day. Doesn’t that seem super low?

  • wow! I gues you must be quite small in the first pkace. I thought my 19 g was low enough! I take you've double checked and re-entered data?

StephC I would start at 20g and tweak downward if you have to, our bodies don’t need carbohydrates as they can make their own but for an easier life I would start at 20g - sometimes I have very few others I have 20g.

  • I am interested to hear about how you get on with that. I have just treated myself to an almond croissant for lunch! Not very keto, I know!

stephanieedmonds77 net carbs Is the number from total carbs minus the fiber. So count the total net carbs.
