What are diabetes carbs?

In this app there are references to "diabetes carbs" but I haven't seen that term in my fairly extensive reading and a quick google search gave me no likely results.

Can anybody explain how they differ from total carbs and net carbs?

Thanks in advance,

Joy

  • Hi Joyful,

We just added this field. Diabetes carbs are total carbs - fiber - half of sugar alcohols. This is a more accurate way of measuring carbs that affect blood glucose.

    Hope this helps!

  • It's a little risky to have this terminology for those of us outside the US. In Australia, fibre isn't included in Carbs on nutrition labelling. I assumed this was a calc to account for the impact of protein on sugar levels for diabetics. Lucky I realised after only half a day, as this could cause serious miscalculation issues for those of us making insulin decisions on this info.
