NET or TOTAL carbs?

I've lost 30lbs give or take the day since May 2017. I've been going up a pound and down a pound the last 3-4 months. I started by just doing low carb and being contentious about it. But now I've stalled. Which is better to go by net or total carbs?  I want to lose another 10 and then maintain. I feel stuck! Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.

  • Go by net carbs always! If you want to lower the amount of net carbs you want to ingest each day you can do that, but still go by bet!

Dr. Eric Westman recommends not more than 20 Total Carbs per day.

Great for the short term, but who can stick to 20 carbs a day for life???

  • Try intermittent fasting a few weeks...also reduce your calories if you can...if you are in ketosis, 25 net carbs should be max and be sure protein is no more than 25% of calories

I’m going against the popular vote here but I am watching Total carbs.. I have heard mixed reviews on this and read both sides but I figure until I hit my ideal weight I’m going to track total carbs.

  • I use total carbs too.  I have for years.  I think it is much easier to account for individual differences that way.
