Net Carbs or Reg Carbs

I'm new on Keto and was wondering if I should track net carbs or regular carbs?

Please help!

Easy peasy.  Track net carbs.  Regular carbs minus fiber equal net carbs.  Why do the math if you don't have to.  Depending on how strict you are, your net carbs should be between 20 and 50 grams.   I do 20, but you may need to start out higher and work your way down.  Hope this helps.

Like Becky said track net carbs. Those are the carbs digested and absorbed by your body. Most people eating Keto or low carb track net carbs.

There’s such a lot of information about this, not least in old posts on. CM.

i only check new foods now but I decided, and this is personal to me, that if carbs come from green leafy veg I go on net carbs because of fibre, if food has combined ingredients e.g. cream cheese, I go by total carbs as this makes sure I  never inadvertently go over 20g. Sounds complex but in practice is easy.

Hi! I’m Pam - new to carb manager. When I put in my data I was told in order to lose 1.5 pounds a week I should have 17 net carbs and 17 total carbs.  When I tracked my food yesterday it said I had 45 total carbs. I’m really confused.... The swerve sweetener alone has 12g of carb in a tablespoon. How the heck is it remotely possible to keep my total carbs at 17? Am I reading the data incorrectly?  Please help! Thanks!

  • Hi there - with Swerve, you'll want to look at net carbs, since we subtract sugar alcohols from total carbs to get net carbs. It should have 0g net carbs per serving.

Carb Manager I noticed that it showed up correctly under net carbs, but showed the full amount under my total day full carb with a fraction like this for example: 12/17 total carbs. Do I just pay attention to the net carb total and ignore the regular carb total? I know people debate this all the time - 1 can’t survive on 17 total carbs per day! Thanks!

PamC  I can't tell you exactly where, but there is a place where you can change your settings to show net carbs.  Maybe someone else can guide you there.
