Weight loss stall

I’ve been on keto for about 10 weeks. Worked well st first (water weight), then I stalled for a month. I have sixty more pounds to lose and I have been weighing food and overestimating when I can’t weigh food. I keep my daily carbs between 20 (goal) and 30 (maybe twice a week). I’ve tried intermittent fasting but my schedule makes it impossible. Any ideas?

  • Have you updated your weight which would change your daily allowance of macros?

Hi Deb, thanks for the quick reply. I did adjust my weight on the calculator. I often eat less than the calories allowed and struggle to eat the fat grams allowed. Not sure if I should start to work out or if it would make things worse.

  • Kaaryn Simmons I wish I knew also.  My weight loss has been pretty quick but I am only on day 15.  I expect to see an increase in weight and I will do a fast.   Fasting does not have to be 24 hours think about the last time you eat and get up.  Example is I stop eating  at 5:30 Pm most days and try not to eat breakfast until 9 or 10. That gives me a 14 hour fast.   If you go to work and need to eat I understand completely but maybe work in last time you eat :).

Another trick I learned on here was entering my food for a day and play with the numbers.  One day I had a perfect balance so I copied that day and mimic it as much as possible the next day. Then I slid and had to go back to the perfect day and do it all over again. We are all learning what works :)

You have to change up what you are doing. Go on a 24 hour fast, try MCT oil and hit the gym for some resistance training...

You have to remember when you start hitting the gym your muscles will hold onto water, so the scale may show an increase in weight.  So, don’t get frustrated the weight will come off.

Yes true indeed. When I hit my weight loss plateau I was lifting weights and not losing weight on the scale, but I think I was still losing fat.

You might try to further reduce your carbs.

Robert N. Bryant debra06201374ad  Been on 20hr window now for about 8 months and I feel incredible throughout the day. That said, when I eat my 1 meal around 7pm I can’t go much lower than like 40 carbs (eating good fats, etc, etc) and I’m really not losing anything.  I started a 2/wk HIIT workout thing about 3 weeks ago that’s kicking my a$$ so maybe it’s the added muscle, but I’m kinda stuck. Anyone know if there’s a big difference initially between 20 carbs/day vs 40? (Averaged over a 1 month period).  Doing everything else right, but feel like there’s just something missing.   Thx!!!

mitch1291 Yes, there is a big difference between 20 and 40 carbs a day. The 40 might be too high to get you into ketosis. Sounds like you are in a little bit of a "keto stall" I have a good article for you to read that should be helpful to you: https://www.ketogenicinfo.com/2019/02/how-to-get-past-stall-on-ketogenic-diet.html

Tallynoles98 Sorry, I was just going to say that I don't measure my water intake. I just drink when I am thirsty. Increasing sodium and potassium are more important than water. Let thirst be your guide unless you are working outside in the heat, then yes extra water will be helpful.

  • mitch1291 I did not know Splenda was in my way so I cut it out.  Now I am cutting Stevia out not because it is bad for anyone just me.  What if you try to eat 2 times a day instead of once? I read somewhere we need to change things around kinda like your weight lifting . It is worth a try :)
