What is the lowest carb intake ok

I have hit the stall wall, My carbs are never over but some days there are at the max.

If I am allotted 16 grams and calories are 1295 how low can I go?

Moondrake  have you noticed a benefit from no dairy this month?

I dropped 5 lb in the first week, but in the next two weeks I only managed to drop a couple of pounds which actually keep wavering back and forth.  It's hard to force my body past this point, I got stuck at this weight on every diet I've ever tried. On the plus side, I had diarrhea for a couple of months and within a day or two of stopping dairy that went completely away. I've always been unable to tolerate milk, but apparently I'm more lactose intolerant than I thought. I'm going to be adding back in butter and a little hwc in May, but I'm going to be a lot more conservative with my use of dairy products going forward.

  • Moondrake  I appreciate your post . It is interesting that I have stopped at the weight I called my happy fat weight.

You have lost more that the 5 lbs right?

I am on my 2nd no dairy day except butter hoping that will be enough to kick start my body again. Butter is something I started using only a couple of months ago.

    Thanks again for responding :)

I try not to go over 22 grams (net)....carbs are not essential once you become fat adapted.

My understanding is when you hit your goals and want to go into maintenance, you can bring your carbs up to 50grams max. (if necessary)

KC You seem to be knowledgeable. Does it matter where I get my calories from in terms of which macro if I am not exceeding my total calories per day? What if I reach my grams in one area but not necessarily the other?

Lara  for Keto, its more important to go by the macros. You won't hit it perfectly every day unless you ate the same thing everyday (that had perfect #s). Its better to pre-fill your day and then look at the pie chart %s.

Your calories should be a small reduction to your daily caloric needs based on your current size and your activity.  You won't have to reduce your calories unless you hit around a 3 week stall or so.

I hardly hit each gram of each of the macros, but I do pretty good at the pie chart percentages.

Keep the carbs low...add fat to things where you can, and eat until full.

    (hopefully I answered your question)

You can go to zero carbs if you want.  Add some more protein.  I was stalled and that is what I did.  I added a lot more protein and cut out most carbs.

KC Hi again. I am close to my macros but over my calories by around 200 or more each day while trying to maintain a low cholesterol Keto diet which is extremely challenging. In fact, I wish there was a option for a low-cholesterol plan as there are vegan and Paleo on this app.

Lara  just cut your portion off by a 1/8 or 1/4 when putting it on your plate....

don't stress ....concentrate on your pie chart ratios...

Lara it's important to maintain the percentages. So if you are on a 5/25/70 macro plan, and you eat a lower number of grams of fat and/or protein, you need to reduce your carbs to stay under 5%.  Carbs are a max, the fewer the better.  Protein is a goal, try to hit it.  Fat is a goal, hit it and even modestly exceed it.  If you are eating fewer carbs, you can make up those calories in fat and protein.

debra06201374ad I'm really looking forward to getting it back in May.   It was very hard at first hitting my fat goals without it and HWC.   Truffle oil, sesame oil and coconut cream have been a big help.

  • Moondrake  I am happy for you that you made a month without butter but I would add it back in first, HWC 2nd :).

debra06201374ad That's the plan.  Although I have some little keto ice creams in the freezer that I'd love to eat and reclaim the space.  Just HWC, baker's chocolate and stevia.

  • I could not meet my fat or protein today. So I whipped up the HWC into a light , fluffy cloud of goodness.  Tomorrow I will find out if dairy caused my stall. But the best part was I could only eat a few teaspoons of the whipped cream :). That is a huge break through for me :)

KC I’m at 3wks( weeks)  NWL ( no weight loss ) what do I do next.

Ive been hitting the fat or going over and hitting the carbs. Protein is usually under when I hit the fat.

    • I noticed little results when I had too much cheese/dairy and then again, when I didn't eat enough fat (I was on a hi-prtein bodybuilder diet then) .  I now try to eat more fat, usually from beef or chicken and have fond I can keep about .35 lbs dropping daily. (Just over 2lb/week).

  • Debi I am not KC   I  hit the stall wall for 9 days at week 3.  I cut out Splenda and dairy down 3 lbs. I added cheese again (baked) so far ok. When I added HWC (heavy whipping cream) I bloated, if someone had stuck a pin in me I would have exploded LOL. So no more HWC.  Our bodies have triggers so you might need to find yours. :) Hang in there and good luck

debra06201374ad  no Splenda but is Stevia still on your list?

    Like
  • Debi Yes but since week 2 I have gotten off my famous cheesecake :).  As I said I added back HWC with stevia but became the good year blimp :).  I have a sodastream and have not made any drinks since last week. I treated myself today to 16 oz (splenda).   Hope it does not bite me tomorrow during weigh in .

    How are you doing?

debra06201374ad  finally lost a few oz. I had a full fat yogurt shake ( yogurt, hwc,  MCT,  stevia, coco powder, Irish butter) it  worked.  So I tried it again today. We will see.....

  • Debi  Well I added back Splenda for 2 days, gained a 1/2 lb.  Put it back on the shelve and 2 days later lost 1 1/2 lb.   I made some of those famous fat bombs yesterday. I indulge with 1 oz. , we will see :).

debra06201374ad  do you stall on other sweeteners ( stevia ) ?

  • Debi No stevia does not seem to have the same effect. But I don't use it that often.  SodaStream flavors with Splenda I drank all day :(. But worth the sacrifice :)
