Met my goals in 4 months

When I started my Keto/Mediterranean diet r months ago my weight was 215lbs and my A1c was 10.6. My Dr wanted to put me on insulin. Instead I was allowed to take 3mo to get my A1c to 8.0 with diet an d metformin at my request. I used all macros on no more than 25diab carbs per day with proteins from poultry and fish only. I am happy to announce today that my A1c is at 5.2 which is considered better than even prediabetic levels and my weight is 33 lbs lower than when i began. I am now at 180lbs and maintaining for 2 months now. Best of luck to all brothers and sisters who are on this road to better health.

Hulagirl very simple really, just follow the Keto program practice but add the parts of the mediterranean diet that does not conflict with the keto diet. Example keto stresses low carb and high fat and protein so instead of  getting my fat and protein from red meat and get them solely from fish and poultry. The protein is the same but less fat. Never take the conflicting elements from the mediterranean diet like nuts, breads, grains, beans ect. But do add vegetables and salads ect. After I began this combination diet I found many articles on the net one even posted by the keto developers about the how to do and benefits of the combination diet. Do some research and learn more about it. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much. It seems like Keto encourages you to eat nuts though. I am doing this with my husband and he is so afraid that vegetables make it worse because so many are high in net carbs. I have heard people say you don't need to worry about the carbs in vegetables?? Your thoughts?

Hulagirl your husband is correct about high net carb veggys but not all veggys are the same. Research carb amounts of all veggys and you will see which are best to eat. I found leafy veggys had the fewest carbs. A word here about my carbs. I do not pay attention to total carbs but I do count net and diabetic carbs. There is a difference between net and diabetic carbs. If diabetes is a concern research that difference. I also turn all my macro counters on so that my daily exercise macros are accounted for. Recumbant bicycle for 17 min at moderate effort burns around 190 cal and 2 carbs. That may not sound like much but when you only allow yourself 25 diab carbs it is a lot somedays. Nuts yes but they are high in carbs relative to the fullness you feel. One important note if you are like me and must have bread look for Keto White Bread by Franz at Walmart stores. It is a zero net carb bread and is delicious.
