New NAFLD

Hi, I'm new to low carb eating. I'm 56 yo male who is 5'11" and weighs 333 lb. I have hypertension and was recently Dx with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. My GI doctor recommends a low carb diet, but wasn't specific in what type to follow, nor how many carbs to eat daily. I originally weighed 385 lb in January 2018 and followed a whole food plant based diet to lose 50 lb. My Dr didn't recommend this diet with my Liver. I'm not diabetic, although I would guess I have metabolic syndrome as I wear size 52 pants. I have looked at both the Keto diet, and south beach diet and have question about whether I could handle the amount and access to carbs on SBD without triggering cravings. I'm planning on starting on this way of eating and was looking for some direction on educating myself.
