Please help me to understand Keto!

Okay, folks, here’s the deal.  I am a 56 year old woman.  I weigh 250 lbs and I stand 5’7.  I want to drop as much weight as I can as quickly as I can.  I am sedentary.  What are my percentages of fat, carbs and protein?  What is the ceiling for my caloric intake per day?  There are so many “Keto calculators” out there and I am getting mixed numbers.   Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

  • I’m LCHF since I’m not checking ketones, but these links have been very helpful for me. They changed my mindset on carbs. Sugars, starches and grains are poison for me, and that is just how I think of them. Losing about 1.3 lbs per week.

Brief explanation of LCHF from Dr Sarah Hallberg TEDx talk: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=da1vvigy5tQ

  • I second dr. Fung! You said as quickly as possible right?! Well fasting along with low carb will get you results fast. Alot recommend doing one before the other though. Im not gonna lie, those first couple of weeks are rough! I started fasting very shortly after starting keto. Just worried about staying under 20 carbs, i found staying under 20 carbs and moderate protien to be easiest by eating one meal a day. I know to most that sounds crazy, but once my body adjusted, i totally love looking forward to one huge meal a day. I dont get groggy or tired anymore during the day, and seem to have a steady stream of energy. The majority of the time i eat this way, and the days i go out to eat, or snack i feel ZERO guilt! Its like food no longer has the same hold on me that it used to.

  • I am originally from Ohio 😁 58 and 60 more  lbs to loose, down 12 in first 5 wk. I would say it might not be up to you if your body will let you lose it fast or not. This weight (“release”, not loss don’t want to find it again) program can be frustrating at times because your body isn’t going to act like it does on any other program. You may loose it very slow but lots of inches. The scale for the most part will not be the best judge of your experience. Most people that stick with this have many more successes that have nothing to do with the scale than any other program I have tried. I am very happy with my findings even though the scale isn’t moving that fast for me. If you have patience follow exactly the strict Keto way you will have success. I love this way of eating and so glad I tried it.

Check out ‘Butter Bob’ on YouTube he does not go in for fancy macros, eating or complex living - he is well researched, intelligent and way down to earth. If his explanations don’t help I will eat my proverbial hat. Enjoy 😊
