Can anyone help?

Hi, I am a 36 year old female doing keto for the first time. The problem I’m having is every 4 weeks, I have to have an chemo infusion due to have an interstitial lung disease. I am also, on 10mg of prednisone daily. The first week to week and a half, I did loose weight quickly, however, I have been at a standstill for weeks now not loosing, not being in ketosis (I have been checking) and actually gaining even though I’m keeping up with my macros and being diligent about documenting everything I eat. Has anyone had any experience on keto and prednisone? Any thoughts? I’m desperate here!!! Thank you!!!

Hi I really wish I could help, you have a very tough time ahead and your spirit is amazing.  There are many links in the self education section in low carb living, whereby you might find more professionals. i.e. The 2ketodudes website & forums have quite a few medical professional members in there.

Keep us prosted on how you are. Big hug.

My son took Prednisone for his heart transplant and it elevated his blood sugar. Are you taking any meds for the elevated blood sugar?

  • Long term use of prednisone may cause hypothyroidism and eventually cushings disease. So just be aware of those symptoms. Prednisone also affects insulin levels. Insulin is responsible for telling the bodys cells to uptake glucose. If your insulin levels are off, your blood sugar may be elevated. That being said, listen to your doctor, express your concerns. It will probably be hard to lose weight while on the prednisone, but just focus on being as healthy as you can be! Dont put your body through any undue stress as i am sure your immune system isnt at its strongest right now. Even if you dont lose the weight right now, just eating better and moderate excercise will make you feel better physically and mentally. Remember to eat lots of those low carb veggies!

jedwards2230611 that’s good blood sugars aren’t elevated. You are on a lower dose than my son.

I agree to focus on your health & good nutrition. Sorry your weight has stalled.
