Sugar

I'm wondering about sugar intake. I'm totally new to this and though I am suppose to be 0 sugar.  But alot of nuts and even peanut butter I see has like 1 or 2 grams of sugar. Is that ok or should I be finding 0 sugar stuff

  • Ok so I am a newbie as well but this is my understanding:

There are naturally occurring sugars in things like nuts, pb, berries and some veggies that are safe in moderation. Its the added sugars that you need to stay away from. So if it says 2g sugar and then below says 0g added sugars its ok. But if it says 2g sugars including 2g ADDED sugar that would be a no. Hopefully that helps a bit?

No, hold up ... the focus is wrong ...

Sugar and added sugar are both things you want to stay away from.
Here is how to read the label ...

you have Carbs than sub groups under it.
The sub groups are fiber, sugar, and alcohols (to sum this up)

Fiber we LOVE it goes negative in our body so you can think of that as they key to LOSE fat. And we LOVE to LOSE, right.
Than there are ‘sugars and added sugar’ BAD!
Sugar alcohols are OK and similarly processed like Fiber. I only accept Erythitol as a negative in calculating net carbs and I usually only see it in some packaged foods such as Keto style protein bars.
So now, let’s say we have 10 total Carbs and in the sub groups we have 3 fiber, 2 sugar, and 0 alcohol. That is 7 NET.
Finally, just as a side note, sugar natural or not is no bueno and you want to stay away from it. Instead you aim for Fiber rich foods.

What Jac said. There are no ‘good’ sugars. Try to avoid them but if you do have some, just realize it will greatly impede your progress. Better to bite the bullet, not the cookie. :)

What about veggies that contain sugars? I find that I’m exceeding 5g of sugar due to eating veggies that are low carb but apparently contain sugar according to the app (eg. celery). What veggies should I be eating then?

GtajG  Most Keto diets only look at Net Carbs not Total Carbs. Sugars from fiber in veggies don’t spike Insulin and are not included in Net Carbs. See the CM app.
