Need help

I'm new to low carb diets and I'm just starting out but I am really struggling as I am a really picky eater so I am having problems finding things to eat. My partner eats alot of fish and veg however I like neither of these things so I don't know what to eat for lunches at work other than ham and cheese but I am really hungry as it doesn't fill me. Breakfast is a struggle as all I eat is egg and bacon at the minute dinner I have the meat aspect but then struggle with a side. Please can anybody help me with recipes or suggestions I really want to stick to this but need some help

Do you like peanut butter? For breakfast try smoothies made with almond milk, coconut cream and/or avocado, ice, and then some other items. Like a small amount of berries.

I sometimes but but peanut butter and cocoa in the smoothie, with the almond milk and coconut cream.

If you like seafood, you can make garlic shrimp with lots of butter for dinner.

I tend to eat only one or two meals a day now. I usually don't eat until lunchtime at the earliest. In the morning I have a cup of tea with milk and then a few coffees with just 10% cream.

Just not that hungry anymore, and I try to stop eating when I feel satisfied, which is not the same as feeling full. That took some time to get used to, I found that when I ate carbs I would eat until I felt full just to make sure I wouldn't feel hungry again in 1-2 hours.

That seems to be what happens when you eat carbs, the glucose levels spike, the insulin then spikes to process the glucose and then once that is done and the blood sugar falls you feel hungry again.

For me, eating keto effectively took time because I had to re-learn what real hunger felt like and the difference between feeling satisfied and feeling full. Plus it took some time to break habits, like munching on "stuff" while watching TV, reading or doing other rather sedentary activities.

To break that habit I would stop and ask myself, "am I really hungry, or am I looking for food just because I want to munch on something". Most of the time it was the later.

Do some google searches for keto recipes, there are lots out there.

Good luck and keep at it. It gets easier.

Lisa Tay Just make sure it is all natural. Just peanuts, no icing sugar, no other oils, etc. You will need to keep it in the fridge to prevent the peanut oil from seperating out, or you will need to stir it up each time.

  • Here are some go to’s for me.  I keep ham, turkey and roast beef in my fridge so I don’t get bored.  A variety of cheese, havarti, cheddar, parmesan,  mozzerella.  Picky about vegetables so it’s green beans and salads, But I add a little purple onion and red bell pepper to salads.  Strawberries and blueberries for fruit, and lots of avocado as a side with eggs or anytime.  I always have hard boiled eggs for egg salad, deviled eggs and add to salads.  I make open face sandwiches.  If we go out for Italian I order a side of meatballs or sausage and ask them to put mozzarella on the top and bake it and order a salad, if Mexican food I order a carne asada burrito with sour cream and cheese only (no beans, rice or potatoes), then I unwrap it and eat the filling with a fork and throw the tortilla away, if a deli sandwich, I order a club sandwich with extra cheese and avocado in a wrap (no bun), then I ask for a fork and knife at the checkout and unwrap it and eat it like open face.  I carry a baggie of macadamia nuts and Dukes Mini Sausages in my purse in case I get hungry, which never happens anymore.  Make tuna salad, egg salad,  nickel salad and stuff celery with any of those.  Also stuffed celery with nut butter or cream cheese.  Hope these ideas help.  I’m 4 weeks into Keto and have lost 16 lbs.

One last tip, bite the bullet and convert your kitchen over to keto as soon as possible.  Lay in multiple healthy fats, not just olive oil, but have avocado oil, coconut oil and real butter.  Have almond flour, sour cream, heavy cream, Cream Cheese and almond milk on hand too, many good recipes use these things.  Have bacon and breakfast sausage pre-cooked so you don’t get bored or sick of one food.  I have made a Keto Lemon cream cheese cookie that was great, and a Keto cheddar cheese biscuit that was also delicious.  I also made a Keto tortilla that was surprisingly good and had tacos for dinner the other night.  Today I will try the macadamia bread recipe.  I have also added strange ingredients to my cupboards to bake some of these recipes, xanthum gum, psyllium husks, ground flax seed, coconut butter (which is different than coconut oil).  These baked goods are great sources to get in all that fat, they all have cheese or oil or sou cream in them and eggs.  Plus, they are satisfying.  Good luck, stretch your legs and stay out of a food rut, there’s so much variety one can eat on Keto.
