A stall? Try ground beef and real butter

I just read that if you have a stall, try ground beef and real butter. 1 c ground beef seasoned and roughly 3 Tablespons of butter melted.  I'm going to try this just to see if it moves me along. I think they did this a few days in a row.  If anyone else tries this before me and sees some results, please post here. Worth a try!

At this point, I think if I see a stalll, OR if I’ve just had a “break day” / “ cheat day”, I’ll go right to what here is mb “ truly “ ketogenic aka 5% or <= 12gms /day w lotsa water. Maybe a 1-2-3 days of this and prove it w keto stix.

seems still good to stay w healthy food whatever that might be for each of us.

    Whaddyathink ?

yatesa12 when your fat adapted - ketosticks are not very accurate I'm finding out. I have a blood meter and totally different reads. Everyone's body is different also.  A stall is not seeing any results in your desired body fat loss not even truly on the scale but on the waistline or other areas  for a few months.  I can get to ketosis day after a cheat day but I don't totally indulge over say 100-150 grams- and this is rare that I cheat. Increase the fats trifold just next day and im back to meter of .9 which is okay for me. It's pure science at times and I don't understand it all yet, so im listening to Multiple pod casts on keto.

Interesting question here : is it more effective to drop carbs or add fat ? I’m getting that dropping carbs is a main thing. Now, if I decide to drop to 12 or so for a few days, do I just eat salmon or other fish etc ( 0 carbs plenty healthy omega fats also protein ) or should I go for meat and butter ? I’m thinking the fish might be a tad healthier overall. Whaddyathink ?

So I’m understanding that you’ve gotten to keto (on strips) in one day by eating this high fat - butter and beef ? Presumably also very low net carbs ! This is a good goal for me too - find out what intake in a day will take me right to testing keto.

As a vegie- pescarian I’d love to see if all fish wd do it. OK maybe add an egg or two. And maybe add some butter.  Yah !

Had a sweet ( not too sweet!) lunch today in celeb of our move. Tomorrow, let’s go back to  keto !

Gonna eat 2 eggs + cheese + butter plus salmon with maybe more butter.  Nothing else. Then test first thing in the am.   Will report !!

Hey all. I fried some ground beef the other day seasoned with pepper garlic salt dehydrated onions and powder and a little bit of mrs dash and sprinkle of ranch powder.  I knew I wouldn't be able to eat a whole pound in one day and  didn't want to risk that leftover reheated taste. I did a med size coffee cup helping last two afternoons substituting that for a dinner drowned in a few TBS of real butter.  My scale did drop close to three pounds- this tells me it may be a good stall breaker for some. Now- I didn't substitute my whole breakfast with it - just ate lighter until I was satisfied. I try not to snack, but did have some walnuts.   I'll admit, second day I had a little hard time choking it down- but I was overly full- so I suggest just eating until your brain tells you your full and don't finish the helping you just served yourself.

badmojomn from the small amount of knowledge I have gained so far, I haven't wasted money buying Keto sticks either. Would you mind me asking which blood monitor you use? Amazon reviews are so varied! I am not planning any cheat days, just makes sense to keep observant a few times a week ~ forewarned is forearmed.

I touched the scale. As I am fat adapted - intermitant fasting is the key for me. Wasn't hungry for dinner so I didn't eat- down two more pounds. I am finding going to bed without anything in my stomach causes sleepless night however. Should have just taken some macadami nuts or something.   Calorie restrictions and IF, breaking the plateau with meat- can be salmon- burger - with few tablespoons of real butter. 1 more burger/ butter bust end of week.

yatesa12 I missed this post earlier. Have you done research on ketogenic lifestyle?  Try to find a keto list of keto friendly foods, and this may help you. All meats are keto friendly. Flipping back to low carb and then to keto isn't going to help you maintain ketosis, however may be detrimental to your health. You really have to do research or which lifestyle you want to maintain. With your lower bmi, keto may be beneficial at any point, but you mustn't ingest a "healthy " dose of carbs while on keto then back to salmon and eggs the next day, routinely. The medical association is typically against high fats and you will have to " turn your brain around " so to speak on this ideation. If you have a ketogenic nutritionist in your area, that would be grand. There are several sources out in the web about how to maintain a keto lifestyle, what does it do to our bodies, what it's been proven to prevent, etc.  If you have done all the research your mind can take, you may form a different opinion on the " fatty" meats that are considered bad for the American heart association. Thyroid and inflammation is one thing you may notice flipping back and forth, not to mention your body will be more confused on what to expend for an energy source. The brain functions on glucose primarily and when we become fat adapted, our brain utilizes the fat on our body and the fat we ingest.  Therefore, mct useage after being fat adapted is more or less giving our metabolism a boost of energy not coming from our body. Some people have great success with mct, some people gain weight. This all depends on exercise levels also. Salmon is excellent dipped in butter with side of low carb veg. To much protein can add more glucose to your blood and store it. Everyone needs to find the ratio that works for them. If you can't eat red meat other sources of protein will suffice mixed with correct amount of fats. You have to put the MD aside to learn ketogenic. If your afraid to eat red meats, don't be. I hope you find the run to do some research. This will help you on your overall goals.  Also remember those last few pounds are difficult to take off. Water retention or dehydration overnight could end up on a scale. Best thing for you is to put that scale away for a month or two and go by your pants and how they are fitting. I can't stress that enough. Very light toning would be a great option also. Make sure to have your tsh checked every so often as permissible. For women the thyroid can be our downer and as we age. There may also be speculations by your cohorts following a higher fat mid protein diet. I have found it's best to not say anything about my new lifestyle to " nay Sayers ".  In closing, make sure you really understand ketogenic vs lower carb lifestyle. This will be the best tool for you. As a highly qualified medical professional, Im sure you would scoff if you saw what I ate in a day, but at the end of the day, I have done my research, followed my plan, and my body and liver fat is melting away.  I have a higher than normal cardiac risk factor and have done research on keto and the heart. The traditional diet we all have been taught doesn't work for me apparently. I'm going to expect my risk factors dropping after one year. I hope this helps. Please please do your deep research and put aside and biases you may have about fats. 🥓🐂🥓🧀

Yes I’ve quite thoroughly researched this  whole thing  by now. Continue reading as there’s always more. Finally have had the chance to get on that. Certainly most interesting.

I see you have found what’s working best for you, how great for you is that, congratulations ! Not easy.   It takes a lot of clear minded effort to accomplish this.

Big thing with medical and med related research is that although a “truth“ about a question can be statistically verified by current standards, that does not mean the same will be true for you or me or any other individual. That’s why we still need doctors (!). Or others who know how to apply population based research to individuals. There is still so much more unknown than what’s been studied, that we all need to be very careful about how much we believe without further question/skeptism/open mindedness.  If we want to be seen as “experts”, we are best off including some of this in our declarations, you learn that after a while, ha ha.

I think the best thing to do for this stuff is just what you have done. Work out honestly what works for you and then just keep on doing that until something changes for you. Then work with that with the same discipline.

All best to you badmojomn ! Keep on, keep on I do enjoy your posts here 😊

yatesa12 I sometimes have great distrust in doctors. And I believe American is quite obese due to the general food pyramids. We have one of the highest rates of obesity and diabetes than all other countries. I would love someone to explain how our country got here.  They give you one med to cure an illness then you have to take more meds to counter act the other problems from the original meds they gave you.

Sure enough and that sort of thing is mighty painful for many of us (docs) as well ! Best thing again is to find someone you can truly work with. Some folks on this site have.

Medicine has come to the point of a need to change. Not quite there yet but I think that will come.  Hey, just like everything else - don’t you agree - e..g., the U S of A and so much more.

Tell u a secret - I’m thinking 🤔 of what it wd take to create a practice using this thinking for people wanting/needing to lose weight. Not near there yet but first thing I would do with this is partner with an NP (!!). ( Nurse Practitioner)   More research coming if that’s ever to happen  ha ha. I’m semi retired now so in some ways might be easier than if I tried to either add to or replace a full time job or practice.

ha ha so when u see my questions, pls do see that I also might be looking at / “researching” this environment and the people in it - what’s working for them, or what’s not working - how they’re thinking , what their experience is with all of this .

yatesa12 The kickbacks in the drugs far exceed the negative impacts that might be done to people of the US. THE drug companies rule here, don't kid me. They had/ have a cure for cancer in the U.K. Or Russia and they banned him ( the doctor who disc the cure for cancer and multiple lifelong diseases)  entering here. I think he was murdered, but I can't recall. It's hydrogen therapy. It's banned in the US because we make a lot of money off sick people. That will never change because we are greedy here. To many politics and money involved. I'm migrating to Mexico as soon as we retire. They don't push meds there and make people sick. How can we trust doctors here and their theories. It's kind of disgusting how sick we are compared to other countries.

badmojomn it's interesting that you mention that. The food pyramid. I was raised in Germany and we wouldn't have a plate of food with 2-3 starches on it. There the portions are a lot smaller too. No all you can eat buffet too.

When I went to school there, I believe it was in 8th grade we had a visitor that was there against the governments permission and told us what the plans where about making us eat ourselves sick. What they where getting to where the processed foods and politics involved in medical care. I thought then, about 30 years ago... wow, tinfoil hat people, lol Today I know that this visitor to my school there was absolutely right. Because it doesn't matter who you are, 300 grams of carbohydrates are the kiss of death to diabetes. But they sell all this crap with high sugar to diabetics. To top it off, Americans now want government run health care, which like my VA Doctor is sold out to Political pressure on how he gives care, if he cares.

Yes, I have to agree with you. I can't trust a system that tells a diabetic to continue to eat high carbs Diabetic foods.

Thank God I'm not Diabetic, but I do all I can not to get there. Because my Godfather when I was little, actually got off insulin shots, by taking the advice of Cardiologist Doctor Adkins.

There is only hope, if you educate yourself.

yatesa12 no looking here for research, Dr. Adkins a Cardiologist, has done that already about 30 years ago. But the medical community refuses to actually admit it. Now the Adkins company has been sold and they add the carbs back in.

Manufacturing pressure Politicians and politicians pressures the medical community. This is deeper then a Nurse Practitioner.

This guy does his research. He knows how and why ketones work, because he has dug in so to speak. He swears a bit but it's to the point. I do hope everyone considering or taking mct's tries to listen to this. Not appropriate for children to listen to however. I have followed his YouTube videos for awhile and searched his posted videos and watched the older ones. He sites literature which makes me believe him. He's got maybe 5% body fat on his body. His wife works out or competes also.  Karri I think her name is, has referenced her in videos. I'm against mct in all forms unless your working out or going through keto flu or just need a little energy boost because your not feeling up to ~par.  Hands down.
