Getting back on track

Hello, I'm very disappointed at myself right now. So what happened is: I was doing just fine and already started seeing results and then I had to go to a work convention and couldn't find any foods that suited the diet for a few days , so I just went for the "best" options available. I am vegan and gluten free so you can imagine how hard that was... but long story short I came back and I felt so bloated and horrible that I tried immediately to get back on track. It just didn't work. My will power is just so low right now and with stress at work is so easy to attack a portion of "gluten free" pasta and feel satisfied but I am finding it hard to find motivation again. I was feeling so much better... :( any tips? Sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance <3

  • I think we all have been there... just get back up on the horse and keep pushing forward. Try to remember how good you were feeling. That keeps me going. I’m on day 6 tomorrow and have not cheated once... for once! I promise myself every morning that I will get through two weeks and take it from there. If I look to far ahead, it’s overwhelming. You can do it!

In total agreement with the others & send a big hug. I read a lot about traveling & prep for how to cope in one of the later chapters of Bright Line Eating. By Susan Peirce Thompson Ph.D. it was really good, practical advise. I think you need to plan for your next trip so that you know next time will be different ~ otherwise your head will be saying, even subconsciously “what’s the point of getting back on track now I will only go off again next trip”.

  • We've all been there, just start again.  You likely just gained water weight which will quickly disappear as you remove the carbs.   As far as traveling goes... my default meal is a huge salad with some protein and flavored olive oil for dressing.  This might sound boring, but the I use the salad as a base, just like some would use bread and have a different sandwich every day.   Use romaine lettuce or spinach as a base and you can add whatever low carb options you like - tomato, cucumber, olives, tofu, tempeh, etc.  This is also something you can get in any restaurant (though you may need to BYO tofu).  I was vegan for years and used to travel with packages of baked tofu that could be eaten cold.  For craving control... I simply don't have any pasta or rice or cereal or sugary snacks in the house.  I realize this might be difficult for those with families, but even just cutting down on those types of foods in the house will be helpful.

Yah I’d have to figure out how to meal prep for work travel. That’s for sure. I like what you’ve said JonnyPancake - might well be that for a work trip, aiming to maintain prior reached goal and just not gain might be best strategy. And then just limit to a few commonly available choices. Have a list and only eat what’s on it. Cool thing if you like to imbibe a bit - there’s 0 carbs in hard liquor and many drinks w just 1-2 carbs. At best some kind of reward as well as social thing in that !
