Newbie needs help.

I’ve just starting using CM. I’m way over on protein and way under under in carbs and fats. Not sure how to balance. I’ve read that too much protein is not good. So I’m just trying to get this figured out and do it right.  I know I will need to cut back on the protein but I don’t know how to get it balanced.  Guidance please.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Excess protein turns to glucose so you don't want that. There's no magic trick, you just need to cut back on meat. I eat about 7 oz of meat per day on a 1200 calorie diet. You need to increase your fats. Focus on healthy fats like avocado, salmon, coconut oil, MCT oil, and olive oil. You can also get some of your fats from heavy whipping cream, butter, cheese, bacon, and fatty meats like chicken thighs, ribeye and pork ribs.  A couple of useful tips on increasing fats: in addition to cooking with fat, add them to your plate. Use fancy finishing butters, MCT oil, coconut oil, and cheeses to garnish meats and vegetables on the plate. Use the drippings from cooking your meat to create seasoned sauces with Chile con queso, alfredo sauce, or cream and butter. Keep yummy fat bombs in the freezer for days when you're coming up short on fat.

Hi ,  This is my 6th day on Keto . I had similar issues and was overwhelmed with the macros.  I have cut back on meat and increased fat as Moondrake advised.  However, I have not increased my carbs because it is my understanding that eating less carbs than your limit is a good thing.  Good luck

Moondrake  Thankyou so much!  I was stumped as to how on earth you eat fat without some protein and I was always coming up short but I think the oils and fat bombs are probably my next go to.  Gina That's what I have heard too, so far having no major problem with the low carbs honestly I think I've been feeling less bloated and bogged down, but now I"m starting to feel clogged up with the fat.  I've been watching a lot of videos on Keto, so I think this is normal and just a phase for my body to get used to the new way to eating.  So far have lost 4 lbs in 4 days (mostly water I know) so I am not complaining.  I will keep this one up simply because it almost seems like a cheat

Mez a fat bomb is a high-fat treat. Mostly they're sweet, but there are savory ones as well. All the ones I make are sweet. I have three kinds in the freezer right now, key lime cheesecake, sinful dark chocolate, and peanut butter coconut.  I posted all three recipes about a month ago under Recipe Swap on the Forum. note that on the dark chocolate one, I would suggest using Baker's Chocolate instead of the Colombian dark chocolate I used. That's just what I happened to have on hand. These fat bombs range from 80 to 120 calories each, they are 1 gram of carb, maybe one gram of protein, and the rest is fat. They're a great way to pick up needed fat at the end of the day when you're short.

I’m not to worried about getting it right all of the time. I keep pecking away at it. Eventually I get better with practice. Doesn’t take long to figure what to and what not to eat. Sometimes I hit my macros right on. Other times I don’t. I’m in it for the long haul.

Hi there, I too was working hard to get balanced and protein was my biggest obstacle.  I reduced my meat/fish to only twice a day.  Small measured portions. I realized eggs have less protein than meat and I have looked at my proteins and have realized that skin-on chicken thighs are probably the lowest protein meat, high in fat, so I’ve begun to include them in my menu.  Good Luck

Mez I'm reposting those recipes as I discovered I can add photos from my laptop.  I put up the chocolate ones this morning, but they are pending review so who knows how long they'll take to show up.  But they should be near the top of the Recipe Swap forum topic.    If that recipe makes it through the gauntlet I'm planning to post others.
