3months Post Partum 1st Time Keto
Hi all,
My name is Rachel and I am 3 months post partum with my 2nd child and decided to try Keto for the first time. I had Gestational Diabetes for both pregnancies on heavy insulin and metformin and the doctors told me I need to change my path or I'll have Type 2 in no time (been prediabetic for years). I'm committed and ready for a change so here I am.
1 week into Keto and I am down 7lbs (5'2, starting weight 165, currently 158). Feels amazing and I see the changes, and it feels like all that water got sucked out of my face, haha. Although I have been on some sort of low carb diet over the past 3 years, it has really ramped up with Keto and I LOVE IT. This does not feel like a diet as I do not feel restricted and only occasionally get hungry. I am reading and researching as I go as there is so much to learn.
One thing that I have noticed is I am always going over on my protein, never hit my fat and always under on carbs. My goal for carbs is at 16g and I typically eat under 10g net carbs. However, my diet is very heavy on meats/bacon/chicken and butter. I'll usually have veggies of some sort for at least one of my meals but it will be a few broccoli pieces here or a lettuce wrap.
Am I on the right path? Do I need to focus on eating more veggies? The way I see it is I am not going over my Net carbs so I am good with however that is achieved and as long as I average near my goals of fat and protein and I am good.
Any thoughts will be appreciated to help on my new journey. Thanks!
