Good Afternoon

My name is Marcia and I started on Keto in January of this year.  I am 5’5” and weighed in at 235 (Ugh, how did that happen?).  I bet I have tried every diet there ever was, weight watchers, Jenny, cabbage diet, egg only diet and Atkins back in the day.  None of these ever really worked and I ended up hungry all the time.  I heard someone talk about the Keto diet and knew I needed to do something because I felt bogged down all the time and my doctor just shook her head at me while reading the results of my blood work.  I went on  YouTube to see what this was all about.  I listened to Dr Eric Westman of Duke University and thought I had nothing to lose.  Very intelligent man.  It sounded complicated when he started talking macros so knew right away I needed an app. to keep track and keep me from slacking and discovered this one.  Love it, so easy to use if you do the work it takes to track.  No Cheating!    I also watch a motivational video on Keto on YouTube most days just to keep my momentum up.  It’s nice to know how to deal with falling off the wagon if that happens,  cause it does happen.  Takes me about three days to get back into ketosis after that happens.  So I learned to think how badly I really want that carb to cost me that extra 1/2 lb I could have lost.  Sometimes it’s worth it but usually it’s not.  I learned from Dr Westman to keep my carbs to a max of 20 total grams a day.  I was using 20 net but found it did not work so well for me.  So that brings me to today.  This morning I weighed in at 197.4 a loss of about 37 lbs.  (Yea me).  I still have about 45 to go but slow and steady wins the race huh!  P.s...Think my doc will be taking me off my diabetic meds.  😃

Well done, Marcia!  Well done indeed!  I think it really makes a difference to see how doing it right matters - no shortcuts.  I’m right with you on the doctor: horrible blood chemistry (diabetic, high cholesterol, high BP)... and now now of that!

You might also find Dr Stephen Phinney to be interesting out on YouTube.

    Keep up the good work!

I started really great! Lost 12 pounds in two weeks and none since that...last ten days nothing # I am hoping it's just temporary setback. I do 20 g carbs, total of about 1500 cal. I record every meal, drink. I am under of any of my daily allotment of fat and protein. What am I doing wrong? Also, I test my urine daily and it shows string ketosis.

Hi.  It looks like you are doing everything right.  Everybody is different.  I hear that the more you have to lose the faster it comes off at first because of water weight.  I have limited my calories to 1200 per day.  I even have trouble making that goal on some days.  I do put MCT oil and collagen peptides In my morning coffee.  I only eat when hungry so sometimes it only twice a day.  Some people fast periodically but I can’t do that.  I use a keto meter to check my ketones.  I never could read the strips correctly.  Good luck to you.  Stick with it and you won’t be sorry that you did.
