How many calories should I have in a day?

I’ve been doing keto for about three weeks now.  It’s going pretty good, but I’ve been doing lots of reading and now I’m wondering if I have set my calories too low. I’m a 52 year old female and want to lose about 20-25 lbs.  Using the tools in this app, if I want to lose 4 lbs a month then I’m only allowed a little over 1100 calories a day. That’s not much when you are incorporating healthy fats into meals. Does that calorie allotment seem right?

I think it depends on your current weight and height.  The calorie allotment per days goes down as you lose weight. I started at 156 lbs with a goal weight of 125-130. Originally my calories allowed was 1300. I’m down to 147...so calories allowed now 1200+. Regardless, 1100 seems lowish.

  • Maria I’m 5’3”. My starting weight was 167 lb, now I’m at 160 lb. My calorie allotment is 1129. I started with how many pounds I wanted to lose a month and that’s the number the app came up with. How did you determine your calories?

I also put in how many lbs I wanted to lose per month. I put in the max allowed. Lol. I also said “moderate” for my activity level.  You might want to see what My Fitness app suggests for calorie intake. On that app, they have me at 1200.

Yes, 1100 calories is correct. Mine is set in that neighborhood too. The fats keep you from getting terribly hungry. Be sure to drink all your water (8 glasses full) everyday.
