Keto

I’m new to this and I was wondering is it ok to go over your calories?

I reckon it is a good idea to know how many calories you should be eating, but not make it your number one priority. Most important, keep your carbs at or under where they should be. Get your macros pretty much right, and then think  about calories. This can take a week or two. Then, read up on calorie cycling. It is important not to go so low that your body thinks it is starving and starts to hang on to weight. Calorie cycling helps with this by eating at what would be a maintenance level  for a day, and then much lower for a day or two. That way your body doesn’t adapt to a new normal.

I may be odd man out but I think that calories still matter. If your macros are calculated correctly, your calories should be correct too. For me, if I go over calories one day, I will cut back the next.

After you are on Keto for awhile you will not be as hungry so that will help to keep calories in check.

When first starting the KETO diet, track Total Carbs only.  The general recommendation for weight loss is 20g or less per day. You will need to eat more calories at first and take in fat and protein nutrients as your body changes.  You need more fuel to stoke the fire!

Eat when you are hungry, and don’t eat when you’re not hungry (unless you’re a diabetic and on meds, or some other health issue which requires that you eat more often...).

You can do it! Good luck! 👍
