After a huge cheat, down a total of 15 lbs in 6 weeks

I had a meltdown a week ago and devoured everything sweet in my house. I can generally resist sweets because I always make sure to have “legal” sweet Keto treats available. But this night was different.

Took me a few days to get back into ketosis and during that time I didn’t weigh myself intentionally knowing it would be discouraging. I’m glad I didn’t.

So there’s hope for continued success if you get right back onto the horse. Don’t let a mistake derail you. Its fixable🙂

Just what are the "legal" sweet treats?

pnhale I guess anything that doesn't blow your macro budget is "legal." A few berries with cream. A spoonful of a natural nut butter (not super sweet but yummy). A diet soft drink with heavy whipping cream (like a float).

I use "fat bombs" sometimes when I have a fat deficit for the day. I have made chocolates with coconut oil, cocoa, and sweetener (portioned into an ice cube tray with round silicon "cubes" so the candy can be popped out) . I'll sometimes whip up a cup of heavy whipping cream with a tiny bit of sweetener (or a small amount of sugar free flavored gelatin) and freeze it in portions in silicon cupcake molds  (google the term "fat bomb" for more ideas, but usually artificially sweetened treats based in coconut oil, heavy cream, cream cheese or similar). Because of the fat content, one or two small portions will often sate that nagging little feeling of not being quite satisfied that can grow into a bad craving. I even allow myself up to two tiny squares of 85% dark chocolate a day, if I'm not maxed out on my carbs. Just a couple grams of carbs and because it's so dark it doesn't lead to sugar cravings--for me, anyway.

For many, though, any type of sweeteners are likely to trip a sweet tooth that grows out of control, so this isn't for everyone. It's a good idea to avoid sweets of any kind the first couple of weeks. And some people find they can't do sweet fat bombs but are fine if they do savory fat bombs. I've seen recipes for them but haven't tried any.

This sort of depends on if your ketogenic or low carb also.

Thanks so much for the Sweet tips! I have tried the real whipped cream on strawberries (which I love) and it satisfies me! My husband went and got him some bluebell, so I treated me to the cream and strawberries. I survived it! He has the true sweet tooth. Working on him. I am trying to wean off of artificial sweetners and powdered cream. Used to use it heavily in my coffee. I am determined to kick that habit. Using real cream or honey now.

Joanna Don't tell me! Somewhere I saw that it was OK to have honey! Guess I'll give the butter and the coconut blended another try!

pnhale sorry if it ‘tastes sweet’ it’s a no go for Keto ~ once you’re free of the addiction cravings (takes less time than you will believe) you will start to notice things like cabbage fried in butter with some black pepper & a few Chilli flakes & dashes of organic coconut aminos has a fabulous sweetness 😋 that’s allowed.

Heavy/double cream every time for coffee (not for me as I love 15mls of C8 MCT in my first mug of coffee ☕️)

It may help you to read or watch a video on the reaction any sweet stuff (real or artificial ) does to your brain as its receptors pick up the alert of it in your mouth. The effect it has on the products released into your blood to deal with it and then the ultimate hunger pangs it sends out for more and then the resulting fat storage.....it goes on and on and the fat around our middle section is typical fat from sugar addicts...me 🙇♀️

pnhale try monkfruit sweetener, or swerve. I like swerve and it has no effect on insulin levels.
