How do you stay on track when.....

I'm done with week 3 being in ketosis. I eat less than 30 net carbs and my husband does my meal planning (he is a dietitian). I have lost 0 pounds so far and I am so discouraged! It's difficult because my husband swears I am doing something wrong. I've had success in the past but just can't get the scale to budge. Trying to stay positive but it's hard not to want to go eat an entire bag of popcorn when Keto doesn't seem to be making an impact.

  • I am on my second keto journey.  This time I am weighing everything right down to the pork rinds I use as breading.  A piece of chicken can weigh as much as 10 ounces when it looks like a "deck of cards".   When I started 13 days ago I would take my timer , set it for 10 mins.  My definition of the noise I make is like a lamaze class :). I can now push a mower (howie hips) and walk around the pasture for 30 mins.

Did you enter your weight etc in the app set up?  If so make sure you update it often.

Please hang in there. Read all the past posts to learn more from the folks that posts here.

    You can do it :)

  • I have been measuring and weighing all my food. I wish I would see a little bit of progress so I can stay motivated. I'm sticking to it. Last time I did a Keto diet, I lost quite a bit and didn't have any problem losing right away. This time it seems like my body is being super stubborn. being 47, I wonder if I'm hormonally challenged.

  • suzymariah  Hormones are tricky.   Did you do the set up in the app to get your correct macros and are you entering everything you eat in the daily log?

  • Yes, I think I’m getting too much protein. So hard to hit a perfect balance.

I'm not sure how much weight you have to lose ...  I am 59 y/o and have a lot to lose (over 100+ pounds).  In the beginning I ate 20-25 NET carbs. Then, after a long  stall at about the 2-1/2 month mark,  jumping up and down the same 1-2 pounds, I realized I must be eating too many carbs, too much protein, not enough fat. I recalculated my macros, began keeping TOTAL carbs <20 , which made me much more careful to eliminate all processed "low carb" and "keto" foods.  Now I'm eating much cleaner, real food, and my carbs are from vegetables only (or a bit of cream, cheese, eggs).  With time I am less hungry, it is easier to keep those carbs very low, and the calories naturally lowered as well.

As an FYI - I "cheated" one weekend and ate 35 total carbs/25 net carbs and I gained 3-4 pounds that took me another week-10 days to lose again.  Really?!  Now I know ...

I'm finally back to losing slow and steady - thankfully!  I may be losing a bit slower than many but I'm VERY happy and contented.  (I've lost 38.6 lbs in 3-1/2 months.)   I don't find it difficult to keep total carbs <20 any longer -I never feel deprived and never suffer through hours of hunger - never again!   Some of us (me!) are more insulin resistant and need to reduce carbs lower to see the same results.

(Another non-scale keto bonus, my blood pressure has dropped down to "optimal", AND my joint pain (which kept me limping/barely moving for the past year) has practically disappeared.  So very much to be thankful for other than the weight loss.)

Don't give up.  I'm sure you'll find the perfect balance, what's right for your body.  I wish you much success!

  • EKR1959  I am in your same boat. I did Keto a while back and after 2 weeks, I had gained a pound. I did feel a little better all around though. But I’ve never had trouble losing weight before. I have read a lot on horomones and learned most women under 50 are estrogen dominant. So I purchased progesterone cream off Amazon. You must purchase the correct type. It makes me much happier and I’ve already lost weight without trying. I am going to attempt Keto again now while using progesterone.

  • I actually started with testosterone and I'm not sure I want to continue. It takes my heart palpitations and I feel so much better but I do kind of suspect it has a role in my weight gain. It's crazy how easy it is to gain weight but losing it is such a chore. I have noticed that I am retaining water. I'm increasing my water intake and I plan to stay off the scale a few days.

  • What kind of progesterone do you use?
