Down 39.8 pounds since October 6.

I started this journey on October 6, 2019 and since then I am down 39.8 pounds. Still have 0.8 pounds to go to reach my goal. I’ve let myself have a few cheat days. I said days, not weeks or seasons. My A1c has gone from 7.1 to 5.3 with taking 1,000 mg of metformin per day. My cholesterol, both ldl and hdl, are normal. Triglycerides are great and so is blood pressure. I can’t believe the progress I’ve made. I thought maybe I could get to 25 lbs off, MAYBE! I’m worried about stabilization. How am I going to do it. I’m also worried about maintenance. I know I can’t go back to my former eating habits. Just don’t know how many carbs to add back to maintain.

Congratulations on a job well done!  Truly an amazing journey, eh?

I’ve had very similar results since 17 Oct 2019: down 61-lbs (trying for that last stubborn four pounds), A1C from 7.7 to 5.4, off diabetes meds completely, cholesterol is back to normal and BP is normal.  Who knew it would be that spectacular.

I’ve read a researched a lot about how to maintain all the improvements, and a Well Formulated Ketogenic Diet is the answer for me - just keep on doing what we’re doing.   I can’t go back to the ‘old ways’ and my doc gave me some motivating advice; he likens it to being an alcoholic.  ‘If you fall off the wagon, the A1C will go back through the roof, cholesterol goes back up, as does the BP. That’s something I think about every day.

To maintain the health of it, there are some great books out there and I’d highly recommend ‘The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living’ by Drs Jeff Volek and Stephen Phinney. They’re also on YouTube, and you can google Virtahealth to find their business website where they have a plethora of medical case studies to back up what they say plus a lot of published research with specific information such as increased sodium requirements, fasting (or not), supplements, etc - either way, they can explain things very well and give all the medical science behind the scenes.

I hope this helps, and keto on!

Congratulations on your journey so far. I have a long way to go but I have the same questions and concerns about how to maintain. Thank you for asking the question. Good luck with that 0.8 pounds. (Hope I’m posting in the right spot. ;)

Irene102655 thanks!  I should have mentioned too, how to set things on CM so you maintain your desired weight.

Go to ‘Settings’ and then to your macros.  Slide your calories button so that your weight loss/gain is zero.  Doing that will adjust your macros accordingly and once you’ve zeroed out, go down the page to just under your macros settings and you should find a blue box, ‘Apply My Macros’.  Select that, and it will update things to your weight maintenance levels.

    Hope this helps
