Yes! Eliminate the wheat, grains and sugar .... swelling goes down! I found Zoe Harcombes advice extremely helpful/informative. (THD) She explains why/ how .... and what’s going on in our bodies ... simple language but very explicit. I bought the books and joined the forum. It was worth every penny!

I can tell you this, I had a horrible day yesterday and decided to have a taco or two with my daughter while driving long range. Bad decision. I either have a reaction of gout or something in my left thumb and elbow joint. So being on keto, don't do this. I previously never suffered from joint issues but I am know. The last digit in my thumb feels locked up and ibuprofen isn't touching it. I'm giving this a correlation to my inappropriate decision to have a bunch of carbs and hoping this will go away.

badmojomn I'm with ya. Had a small amount of carbs the last two days, my husband's birthday dinner I had 3 petals off a blooming onion and yesterday at the office party had 2 of my coworker's spinach triangles-wrapped in filo dough. Didn't want to hurt her feelings. But by last night the arthritis pain in my knees was back. Then this morning my finger joints were hurting. It is not worth it! Hope we both are back on track soon. I'm being really strict today to hopefully calm it down.

I was the same, 55yo and rigid like a Board. Yoga gave me immediate relief. Half way into the first stretching class. Changed my life. I don't keep at it like I should, classes are expensive, but even the you tube videos offer great relief when I am feeling stiff. Just stretching no crazy headstand stuff for me.

badmojomn I made the Keto Swedish meatballs too and they are delicious.
About the swelling or water retention, yes processed foods come with lots of salt and chemicals. I used to have swellings in both of my hands and it stopped a few weeks into Keto. But here like you, I cook all of my food from scratch so I know that only the REAL food is in it.
Taking care of ones health, takes determination and planning. It will actually shine light on the food that is being sold to us as "Healthy".

I am 57 and feel older than my 80 yo mum 😶 Osteo and Rhuematoid arthritis is crippling me. I previously tried a zero sugar dietand felt improvement but back then I didn't know the keto way of eating so it was hard to sustain and I still ate wheat and rice. This time I am really hoping for joint pain relief and being more active to lose a bit of weight.

How are you feeling, Julie? If your results are like mine, you’re feeling much better! I’m also 56, and I suffered from chronic pain for three decades - onset in my twenties with a diagnosis of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Over the years I have tried many many dietary changes to alleviate the pain but never tried a very low carb way of eating. None of my previous efforts offered much relief. About a month ago I found out my A1C was just over the normal/healthy range, and my doctor said, “just take care of it - eat low-carb.” After some researching, I decided to try a keto diet, and within a week I had a huge reduction in pain and a major boost in mobility and energy. It’s only been about five weeks to date, but I feel SO much better and am hopeful for lasting improvement! Hope you see the same results!

dsnarski2505 I kind of made up my own based on a Pinterest “ low carb sweedish meatball” recipe. Made rolled meatballs with the nutmeg, allspice, very small dash of ground cloves, Black pepper, and minced white onion, dash or two of salt, and worcheschire sauce. Fried in my cast iron pan, can add 1 egg to per pound of ground meat but I forgot and they were fine. Browned in butter and peanut oil. Cream sauce was the drippings off the fried meatballs, added beef broth stock, few teaspoons of nutmeg and allspice and small amount of clove( very small), black pepper. All this to taste the way I wanted it. It’s a personal preference on the spices and even what goes into the meat. Can’t taste those raw but a few teaspoons of dried nutmeg per pound I think is good along with a few dashes of the other spices. 1/4-1/3 c minced onion in the meat. Dash of worcheschire sauce in the meatballs and sauce. I kept tasting the sauce before adding the cream products. Add a healthy dose of heavy cream, and some cream cheese. 2 c beef broth i should have said earlier or more depending on how much sauce you want. I put real butter in the sauce few tablespoons, and just slowly cooked the sauce and it’s runny at first, add more cream cheese if needed . I added some quality beef bullion. Add to crock pot or what I did was bake with meatballs uncovered on really low to let the sauce thicken and reduce. The sauce should almost cover the meatballs. Sorry so long, typically I tweak a recipe from Pinterest with gravy. I have perfected meat gravy now and don’t need a recipe. I keep tasting the broth part then add the cream and butter with cream cheese as a binder/thickner agent at the end. Seasonings get added at the end also sometimes if needed. Someday I’ll write what I add down to exact.
