I feel your pain. I have been totally ON for 3 weeks and have not shed a pound. Haven't gained a pound, either. The keto diet is not a walk in the park. I'm trying to figure out if I can make it work for me. Seems we have to be very careful about our total calorie intake, how much protein and fat we need, and of course very low carb. Good luck and I hope you find some support on this site 😄

  • I started about four weeks ago . I also did intermittent fasting as well.  I did lose 7 pounds in the beginning but for the past couple weeks I’ve seen no change, so I’ve decide to start from the beginning. I am going to concentrate on just my food and not worry about fasting just yet. I have enjoyed meals and have only been hungry a couple of times, but I think I may have been indulging in too many homemade keto desserts. I want to eat clean, whole food only for the next few weeks. After that, depending on how I’m doing I’ll treat myself to my keto desserts periodically. What choices are you struggling with?

KristieF I'm not sure why people push the fasting.  To me, it complicates a somewhat confusing diet anyway.  Especially if people think it is part of the diet.  Also, the initial water weight loss is misleading to people when it stops.  Then the more difficult transition of stored energy (fat) to energy (ketones) has to happen and it isn't fast.  Then there is the calorie deficit that must be there or else you're simply in maintenance mode running on ketones.  For me, it took years to store the fat and I'm still impressed I can lose it around a pound a week.

    Hi Doreen

I'm only struggling with the extreme carb level. I feel petty crummy. Most mornings I'm not hungry at all and don't eat until noon. I'm too lazy to bother with making desserts 😛

I've increased my carb level a bit so we'll see how that works for me. Cheers!

  • Karbndall Just as an FYI I personally wasn’t pushed to do the intermittent fasting. A friend of mine who also suffers from hypothyroidism said she found it helpful to her so I decided to try it. I really didn’t mind it, but am going to forego it for the next little while. Hopefully with dedication to this way of eating then over time I will begin to lose weight. Even though I haven’t yet begun to lose any more weight besides my initial water weight , I do feel physically better; no bloating. That makes me smile!

KristieF That's good.  I see a lot of people in the various groups and threads encouraging people to fast and also so many people, after the initial water weight drop, thinking they need to be doing more because they've “stalled”.  Then throw in medical conditions and I'm thinking, wow, just give the basics a chance.  Anyway, good that you're smiling!!👍🙂

Hi Doreen, like you I haven't really lost weight.  I seem to be staying at my starting weight but have really been enjoying the foods I am able to eat on Keto.  Eggs, cheese, heavy cream, mayo and avocados are among my favorite foods.

    Hi guys

I'm still stumbling along, having made adjustments so I could function. I keep it simple. I don't make keto-desserts. I had to up my carb limit because at 20 grams or less I felt like dog doo doo. It has made it easier to maintain exercise of some intensity.

I've gone down a pants size in the almost 50 days following low carb diet, almost 2 (I hope by Christmas). The big changes in my diet are: no more beer, no tacos : (, no pasta, no rice, no bread, (except an occasional slice of Ezekiel bread), no baked goods (cookies, cake etc). My biggest problem is food boredom.

I am trying to live my life without being hyper-focused on being "low-carb". Holidays bring extra challenges. I accept them and move on. New eating habits take time.

Karbndall   I love intermittent fasting.  I've read many accounts of where it helped lose the weight faster; found a video online which explained the "science" (I am using that term lightly) behind it, and why it is that it works; and then personally, I used to be addicted to checking my ketone levels with Keto sticks as often as I could, and what I found was that when I fasted the sticks were really, really deep purple which may not translate to much except for the fact that I got a mental and emotional boost to seeing them which translated into self-encouragement of sorts.  I highly recommend it.

Doreen   Sending you a bunch of good thoughts!   I slipped up a bit yesterday and I am feeling a bit down too, but truly, there is no need to.  You pick up and go on.  Look at it this way (if I can explain it).  Were you not on the road to taking care of yourself, you'd be doing the 'bad stuff' all the time.  You're not.  On the contrary.  You are actively working towards improving and every minute spent doing so, is a win.  Those minutes far outweigh any slip-up.  Hang in there!

Kristie Friars I think I may be in the same boat. I've been on/off Keto since right before Thanksgiving, but had a plate of 'Thanksgiving' food at a restaurant (so no leftovers) and then last week went to Korean BBQ, thinking that would be easy -I managed to bump out of ketosis-didn't have any noodles, rice, etc but I guess the marinades did me in!  It takes me a while to get back in. I was completely addicted to carbs, I had a bagel for breaky, usually ice cream, pasta, etc during the day.  I went a bit crazy with keto mousse and am trying to develop a good meringue recipe so I am probably having too much sugar alcohol.  I am down about 7 pounds and have about 16 more to go. My biggest issue is that my period has been nonstop (TMI, maybe). Everything I read talks about them stopping. I have always been on the extremely light side so it is a bummer. Has anyone else had this experience?

I write out a weekly menu and just stick to it.  It's too hard to do on the fly.  As great as this lifestyle change is, it does require alot of preplanning

Also I would stay away from going out to eat for a long while.

There is sugar and carbs in almost everything you eat and restaurants love dumping the extra carbs on you without you even knowing.

  • Hard to stick to during the holidays. My home is filled with Christmas cookies, pies and candy. I fall off my diet almost every night. Once my home is cleared of these temptations I'll be back in 100%.
