New to this

Hello everyone my name is Sarah this is my first time doing the keto diet. So I started my diet Sunday it is now Wednesday today is the first day I tried the keto strips which read moderate. I really just want to know that I’m doing this correctly. For breakfast I eat eggs and some kind of meat  for lunch I normally have meat  and a salad and for dinner I’ve been trying to follow keto recipes but for example I eat a lot of eggs and tonight I’m having steak bites with sautéed onions and mushrooms in butter. I only drink diet pop and power aid  zero. If anyone can tell me if this sounds good please do so. I’m not real sure how all of this works I just know you’re not supposed to eat carbs so I have generally cut out all carbs.

Try to avoid diet pops at all possible and artificial sweetners for a bit. If your turning the sticks color your doing fine. Time is on your side now and put the scale away. It takes awhile sometimes for women to see some results happening and weighing into soon or to often can sometimes be negative to our thinking process. Weigh in about 4 weeks. Then in another month.

  • Sarah, i just started too and i know how it is a bit confusing and overhelming at first.  My action plan was to create my recipe book on Pinterest with recipes that i usually ate but turned into Keto.  You will be bored soon if you go only meat and salad but it's a good start. :D  Where do you get your fat macro though?  Seems like you are not having a lot of it and it's the key right?

I found so many website with a lot of good idea (even on the go as getting no buns Arby's roast beef only - made me 2 meals for cheap!)  The key in my humble opinion will be to be creative and to see all the possibilities and yummy way to get your Keto right: fat bomb cookie dough, pizza, pancake, pecan pie, it's all possible on Keto too!  See it as a new world of healthy goodies, not a restrictive diet.  You are fueling yourself with good stuff now and it can be fun and tasty.  Good luck on your journey.

P.S.  I switched my juice and sweet tea to Mio drop with water. I get a lot of flavor and my water intake easy that way.  For your drink, this is what i found about them on a Keto research:  Many of the most common artificial sweeteners out there, such as aspartame, sucralose, and splenda, are technically low glycemic and low in calories, but we encourage approaching these with caution. In some people, they can affect blood sugar, lead to more cravings, and even disrupt hormones and ketosis.

  • Hi Sarah! I failed horribly my first attempt at the keto diet. I knew it should work and was frustrated that after 6 weeks the scale didn't budge.  I did some research and the biggest mistake newbies make on the keto diet is eat to much protein and not enough fat.  So my next question was how do you get the fat in without over eating protein. My solution so far is a bulletproof coffee or tea, a tablespoon of coconut oil, butter and heavy cream. It's yummy, I add a little vanilla and it's so good. Depending how much fat I need I will play around with how much fat I put in.  Anyway, fat is what will make you feel full, so you'll see your meals get smaller as your stomach signals fullness quicker when good fats are in your diet. Avacado is another great fat to incorporate.  I am on week 1 of my second attempt, weighted myself today...down 10 pounds! So I think I found the right way to do keto for me to be successful. I drink only water also important as rapid weight-loss requires alot of liquid to flush the toxins out. The only time I allowed myself a stevia sweetened zero cal, zero carb drink is when my cravings were unbearable. I am an emotional eater and I have triggers. One drink and then back to guzzling water. It seemed to work so far. I am as far from an expert as you can get but this has worked for me in week one. I also check my urine in the am and before bed to make sure I'm still in ketosis. Although the first time I also was in ketosis and lost nothing so fat is definitely the key. Watch your macros and keep imputing your food on this app to keep track of where you're at each day. Good luck! I know you can do this!
