FRUSTRATED!
Ok, I have been doing this for 10 days now, lost 6 pounds in 6 days. I have been in ketosis since day 3. I took a laxative yesterday because well, you know why. And the laxative worked ALL NIGHT LONG and is still going strong this morning . I got on the scale, and I GAINED 1 LB! I have not had a bad carb this whole time, and have been pretty strict with my macro's. What is up?

Firstly don’t panic, sounds like your poor body is a bit shocked. Stay doing what you have been doing, being in ketosis already is brilliant & soon you will move on to being fat adapted. Your weight will go down again within 48 hrs.
Okay our bowels take some settling down at first on Keto. I take Psyllium Husks Fibre 500mg tablets between 2-6 a day as I really don’t like to get constipated. I am 56 & have had IBS since I was 20. Bloating and wind have almost completely disappeared from my life, (TMI) as have bad ‘reactions’.... to foods. Stick with this diet & ditch the laxatives. Extra fats will also assist nature, have you tried MCT Oil, start slowly & build. I have 15mls a day currently. How many carbs are you on & do you use them for good Fibre rich veg?
Feel better soon, rest & drink plenty of water, stay off the scales tomorrow.

Joanna Thanks for replying. I am 54 and also have IBS. The things I love to eat like cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli KILL my stomach. I'm hoping that gets better. I use an MCT powder that is supposed to be probiotic and fiber also. I usually go over my fat allowance, I find that I eat a lot of cheese, which causes the constipation problem. My macros are 47 carbs, but I rarely even get 30, I have a hard time finding carbs that I don't have to include fat with for taste. I eat a little spinach in my eggs every morning and I eat a lot of romaine lettuce but it has no carbs hardly. Last night I didn't even have 20 carbs. So it's been a struggle. I will say I can see a difference in my belly fat however. And when I say ketosis, I mean that sucker is dark purple always! What are some good carb only foods? I exercise a lot, every day and sometimes twice a day, so I'm afraid to go too low on my carbs. Thanks for answering my questions!

stacemont seriously don’t worry so about the fats yet, as you get fat adapted you can ease off a little. We don’t need as much protein as we think we do. Your carbs are great with exercise why worry about cooking your cabbage in fat I had mine cooked with butter last night with homemade Keto beef stew, just had my first food today 19hrs later! Please take a look in the ‘self education’ thread as I have listed books & links plus some low carb cooking lessons with Dot2Trot who has lost 145lbs.

stacemont our blood stream ‘naturally’ has only 1 tsp of sugar in it’s whole volume ~ add just one tsp of sugar to your coffee.... you decide, excess insulin gets stored as belly fat....I went from cream & 2 sugars to black & now love it! I wouldn’t go back if you paid me. Tough this out you can do it too.

Ah get off that stuff when you can too, Bright Line Eating, Susan Peirce Thompson Ph.D. has a great book but also some free videos on YouTube which taught me a lot about sugar & artificial sweeteners.
But never mind that, how are you feeling today?
re carbs ~ our bodies do not need carbohydrates as it can make it’s own. But I understand someone exercising needs more than I currently do ( not able to exercise at the moment, not Keto related.)

Joanna I know artificial sweeteners aren't good but it's only about 1/2 teaspoon and it makes me enjoy my coffee again, so I'm doing it, lol. I feel better, that split pea soup took me way over my carbs and when I checked with the strip, I was low in ketosis. So I ate some Parmesan crisps with some French onion dip for a snack before bed, and I'm back up to dark pink today. I feel better today also. I'm going to keep the carbs low today. I want to try to stay off the scale until Sunday, we'll see about that!

badmojomn it definitely took me out of ketosis. Well, way down. But my sister in law made it specifically for me and makes it once a year, so I couldn't tell her no, lol. I was back in ketosis the next day mid day so no harm. I think I actually needed that boost in carbs, because I have felt much better every day since I ate it, I work out everyday and was feeling depleted!
