Heavy cream with coffee

I began a low carb food plan using the keto app and many keto recipes, in late September. I have steadily lost 1.5 - 2 # weekly without 'starving or severe cravings'.  Having lost 25 of my 40# goal before knee replacements, I am looking more closely to my calories.  A 5-6 cups of coffee daily drinker, I switched from half&half to heavy cream when starting this.  However, noticing that 1 teas of cream is 50 calories, I'm wondering how important it is for me to cut back or switch to half n half. The creamed coffee satisfies my cravings but hikes my caloric count.  I really get confused about the calories vs carbs when I stay within my carb goal but go over the recommended calories that my body needs to lose fat.

I am 74, now 193#, and 5,5"....and  blame it all on those missing 3" of height I use to have!馃ぃ

  • First of all you look great for your age, in researching, I found that counting calories does not count when counting carbs and sugars, don't feel guilty, you are doing great馃槉馃挄

Really?!, that鈥檚 great news. Thank you .  I had searched on line with no luck.  Thank you for your compliment, but I have to credit my mother鈥檚 genes and the fact that I wear a wig in youthful colors. My hair never returned after chemo 10 years ago.

Ellyn I remember seeing that counting calories is more important when you are down to 10 last lbs. I am not sure if 5-6 servings of cream in your coffee are doing you any good. You can try and add 0.5 serving/cup for a week and see if  it helps with your progress. You do look lovely! Congratulations on your weight loss! What an inspiration!

NLDSK   You鈥檙e very sweet, thank you.  I didn鈥檛 intend to post such a full photo but was too New at this sort of thing, had no idea that I was!

I began in ernest the end of September and had doctor appt yesterday. According to her records I have lost 30# and she was thrilled my good cholesterol had changed 30 points. I did put my stationary bike flat dab in my entry above my sunken living room. Nearly everyday I put in at least 10 Miles, tonight I did 20 - just making phone calls and catching up on Masterpeice Theatre. LOL. But I have no children to help with homework or put to bed with a story.  My doctor requested I send her this app, and she found it really helpful too.

That鈥檚 interesting about the last 10 or so pounds, it must have something to do with ones metabolism. And I鈥檒l break down and buy some of these exotic coffee that might be more appealing w/o cream. But being one who recalls coffee costing 5 cents, it鈥檚 hard for me to do it!! 馃槈

  • I am a big coffee drinker and I have always used a lot of cream in my coffee. I need my  coffee creamy or I won鈥檛 drink it. I also don鈥檛 want to go crazy with calories because I have over 100 lbs to lose. I use half and half and measure out 3 tablespoons per cup. It鈥檚 not as creamy as I鈥檓 used to but I got used to it and now it鈥檚 fine for me. It鈥檚 60 calories a cup and about 1.5 carbs. I also cut back to 2-3 cups of coffee a day.

  • Fellow coffeeholic here and since I've been watching both my carbs and calorie intake, I've switched to using Coconut Milk in my coffee.  Obviously not as thick or creamy as heavy cream or half-n-half but I find it just as satisfying.  Just watch the labels for added sugar, here is the break-down for 2 tbsp of coconut milk from Aldi.

swopelynn07c9 have you checked calories on different brands of heavy whipping cream? I think the weight will come off even if you at first go over some calorie counts. After awhile, the amount of food you will want to eat will decrease a lot! And us coffee drinkers need to have our java a certain way, or we wouldn鈥檛 be living life to the fullest. That鈥檚 how I figure it. Lol
