Over on Protein a lot

I tend to go over on protein a lot of days.  I mostly east chicken breast because that’s what I like...  I do have some bacon, nuts, cream...  is going over with protein going to hurt my weight loss?

  • Hi. Unfortunately that’s not an easy question to answer since there are many variables to consider: male vs female, age, amount of physical exercise you participate in, etc.

  • Kristie F. Thanks for the reply Kristie. I’m 56, a woman and only lightly active right now due to some physical issues.  I’m starting physical therapy this week so will be able to exercise more soon.

Hi I have the same concern. I’m female 60 years old i started keto 1/6/2020, I do boot camp during the week pretty much stay under carbs, protein and real close to hitting my fat. I do IF 16/8 during the week I find it easier since I work. This is my first weekend doing keto and not doing IF and my breakfast consisted of 3 scrambled eggs spinach pepperoni avocado of course butter HWC in coffee and eggs and I’m getting close to my fats and still have the rest of the day to go. Does it hurt to go over fats some days? I might be able to get out and walk if the weather gets better but it’s Ohio and you never know!

  • Goldilocks527 I’m a 52 year old female and also only slight active. I also have hypothyroidism. I’m normally at or over on my protein. I’m still losing weight. I believe protein is especially important to women our age to ensure we don’t lose muscle mass. Just keep at it and see how your body reacts. Everyone is different.

  • Juju No it’s okay to go over on your fats some days, but ultimately you want your body to used your stored fat for energy rather than the fats you are consuming.  Look at your week overall rather than fixating on any one day.
