Total Calories Discrepancy

Not exactly a feature request, but I don't see anywhere on this app to ask for help or clarification so I guess I'll post it here.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but protein & carbs each have 4 calories per gram & fat has 9.

(159g protein × 4) + (123g fat × 9) + (19g carbs × 4) = 1819

Yet this app is reporting 1909 calories consumed today. What gives?

(I'm trying to attach a screenshot but that feature seems to be non-functional from my phone on this app.  😒)

No one responded, but I'll go ahead and update this anyway for anyone else having the same confusion.

I figured out where the extra calories are coming from: fiber.

I was under the impression that fiber is not able to be digested, so I wasn't figuring that in.

Am I misinformed about that? Does fiber really contribute to how many calories my body is able to get out of my food?

  • As far as I understand, fiber isn't a source of energy and shouldn't be included in total calories.

On top of that, mine isn't adding up to the correct calorie total when I include fiber anyways. I'm not getting the correct total under any of the options (i.e. "actual" "planned" "Goal").

    Super frustrating...
