Ketones

Anyone testing urine and blood for ketones and noticing based on urine I’m in ketosis but blood shows you aren’t?

     Urine and Blood Ketones

The issue with measuring Urine and Blood Ketones is that initially it provide with a good or fairly reading.

However, later when you Ketogenic Diet is on target, you Urine and Blood Ketone levels will decrease.

    This has to do with...,

    The General Adaptation Syndrome

What this means is the body will eventually adapt to you being on the Ketogenic Diet.  In doing so, your body realizes that you only need a certain number of ketones for energy.

It then adapts, your body producing fewer ketones, which registers in your Urine and Blood Ketones.

Let look at a similar example of adaptation...

    Metabolic Rate

Initially when you decrease your caloric intake, you lose weight.

After a few weeks, you body slow down your metabolic rate; lean to life/maintain weight on fewer calories.  It is a survival mechanism to ensure that you don't starve to death.

    Urine Test Strips

At some point, they most likely will stop working for you,

    Blood Ketones

Think of Blood Ketones as your "Ketone Saving Account" that is tied to your checking account.

Think of your "Ketone Saving Account" linked to your "Ketone Checking Account" that has Over Draft Protection.

If you write a check but don't have enough money in that account, money is transferred from you Saving Account so that you are not Over Drawn.

When that occurs, you Blood Ketone reading is going to drop down.
