New

Hi all,

I'm new here and my profile is going to be incomplete.  I signed up only in order to chat on the forum; I use my own tracking.

What I really want to get out of eating this way is better health.  I'm not sure if this diet is sustainable for me though.  I've tried doing low-carb for a while, but I cheat a lot.  I think I am a carb addict.  I spend way too much money on lattes and fancy coffee drinks.  They are my favs.  Lately I've been finding some safe alternatives to these in order to continue while still "treating" myself - I found a vanilla-flavored black tea that I sweeten with Stevia and add half & half.  It's so luscious!

Any way, I am wondering if doing this the way I have for so long (with cheating) that it has wrecked my gut microbiome.  My skin is awful; really dry and cracked and it's really hard for it to heal.  If you're familiar with the microbiome, it's this idea that the gut bacteria contribute to health in a number of ways, and almost any health condition may have some cause related to the gut bacteria.  But I know there are lots of people that do keto/low-carb/carnivore and they have perfect skin and no issues like me.

I'm just wondering if anyone else had skin conditions etc that they were able to heal with low-carb eating.  If so, how long did it take?  How rigidly do you have to stick to the diet?  Would my luscious vanilla tea still be allowed if I'm trying to heal?

Thanks for any supportive comments.

Welcome to the forum, this is a great place to exchange thoughts and support each other.

While I’m not familiar with the skin condition you describe, or how it might be impacted by a ketogenic diet, I would like to offer a YouTube channel, ‘The Carb Addition Doctor’.   Dr. Cywes does a great job in supporting carb addicts and has a ton of very useful information.

I hope this is of some help, and good luck!
