Having trouble with Ketosis
I am really have trouble getting into ketosis. I am following the macros to a T. I barely move from a trace marker on the urine test strip. I have been on it for 6 weeks and have only lost 6 lbs. Granted I do not have a huge amount to lose but would like another 10. Any suggestions other than drinking a bottle of olive oil to get my body into Ketosis?

Hi. Can I ask what you daily schedule is? Do you do IF and if so, what hours do you fast vs your eat times? Also, do you incorporate any alternate day fasting (ADF) where you skip the next day of eating and do a water fast, or, you opt to eat less than 500 calories then go back to you eat day (IF) the next day and so on? This has worked very well for me and is something to consider. Hope this helps.

Urine strips are not accurate especially when you’ve been doing this a while. You may want to consider getting a meter. Also you may need to start mixing things up. Your body will quickly adjust if you keep doing the same routine. I have to change my eating schedule about every two weeks to keep seeing progress. So for a couple of weeks I do OMAD, then switch to 16:8, then AFD, etc. Keep that body guessing! :)

I agree with the ADF, IF, and keto meter suggestions, also with shaking up your eating schedule. I have had great luck with a 36 hr fast in kickstarting my ketosis (my meter reads consistently around 3-4 mmol); I think it helps to extend your hours of non-eating, too - have a late lunch and skip dinner, for example. I increased my fats to 80%, lowered my protein macros and basically omitted carbs - FOR A WHILE - but I don't lose weight unless I do an extended (30-36 hr) fast. Jason Fung is considered the Fasting expert and his books are almost mandatory if you are doing keto. I find Dr. Boz (on YouTube) also very helpful and motivating. I check my blood sugars as well, and Fasting has got my fasting blood glucose down in to the 90's (it used to run in the 100's); it keeps getting lower with IF and ADF; I recommend fasting protocols highly.

I had a friend who took the keto pills and was very ill. Felt nauseous, weak and was always sweating, she did she had like a fever, with the chills. She took a break felt better then started up again only to throw them in the trash. They scared her. Now she sticks to natural foods and her progress has been slow but she feels great.
Having said that everyone reacts differently.
I personally think eating food has less side effects than pills that your liver needs to process. -
I was telling a friend about my new adventure of keto and she said to me she switches days of one on keto and one with carbs. She said her body gets used to the metabolic changes too fast and she wasn’t successful in losing weight until she did it that way. She lost the 30lb she wanted to lose this way but had not been successful in the three months she ate keto alone. I’ve not read any research at ALL on this so I’m definitely not recommending that you do it, but maybe do some research about different diet options that may work better for you.
