Does this get easier?

I’ve been doing keto now for almost 3 weeks.Still not in ketosis. No more than 16 g of carbs and have been sticking to this (except on my birthday when I had 25.) . One day I had 1.5 mmol on a urine dipstick otherwise only trace I have only lost 5 pounds I’m feeling a bit discouraged. i’m feeling a bit discouraged. I guess I’m wondering what the hype is about keto? I hear people lose weight fast or that they’re not hungry. Is this true? Do I just need to give it more time? Any recommendations would be appreciated

  • Urine sticks are not reliable and stop working after a couple of weeks.  The reason is that your body is adapting and starting to use ketones for energy instead of releasing them through urine.  Try taking your measurements instead.  You may be making awesome gains that way but they may not show up on the scale.  You may also want to consider getting a glucose meter.  Not everyone loses lots and lots of weight immediately on keto.  Some do but for most people it takes longer.  I know it can be hard at first when you don't see instant results but try not to get discouraged.

Thank you for posting this! I am also 3 weeks in, and came to the forums for specifically this reason. I don't know if I'm in ketosis, as I don't test, but have no more cravings, and am also past that awful 'flu'. But, the blasted scale isn't moving, even though my uniforms are now MUCH looser. I told myself that if it the scale didn't move, I would give this up. My hunger has been real (not cravings), but I will not give up the fight, just yet.

Don't give up hope.  I'm not. Usually by now, I would have and put myself in a downer state. I fell for all those ads on FB and IG. The amazing weight loss of 12-15 first week. Eat the foods you love. Looking at some of those pictures of the foods we could eat, dayum, had me sold. So I came off HCG injections once I hit 20lbs lost(4 weeks). Its now been 3 weeks of Keto and I'm only down 6lbs. Granted I had my whoosh effect during my HCG round.  I step on the scale every morning, I know I shouldn't. Looking for an instant gratification is my guess. But its not there.  However, my clothes are too big, the cute bras that I found months, years ago sitting waiting to be worn...fit ! The scale is only one number.  A number not worth depending on but we have been conditioned to think that is what matters.  Never the way we feel, the way our clothes fit, the lack of hunger and cravings.  Hang in there.  It will all sync together eventually. Always remember, you are burning fat. The cells are releasing the fat that you burn, once empty they fill with water till they release again and that fat cell is a dot.  I couldn't get into Ketosis till I did a 24 hour fast.  Was always at 0.7 in mornings and 1.2 if I was lucky by late afternoon.  After the fasting, it dropped 3lbs, yes, probably mostly water but I got my instant gratification off the scale. LOL  I added 30-45 min walks everyday and anytime I test my ketones by blood meter, I'm sitting at 2.4-3.4mmol.  THAT is the number I have instant gratification with now.  Visions of Pac-Man running through my body eating up all my fat cells.

I am definitely having similar problems, just finished the Obesity Code and am here trying to find  others that have been overweight for a long time and have finally found a way to reverse the insulin problem I clearly have.  I joined the FB page too, just waiting for acceptance.  I think it does have more to do with age and how long you've been overweight, I just don't know if it can be broken!

Jojolmh My gosh it seems like our stories are so similar!  I did the exact same thing with HCG and after reading the O Code, I'm ready to go back for another round and another fast 20lbs!  It seems like the code is saying there is almost nothing you can do to reverse the insulin resistance factor, and it makes sense due to the diligence I've put in for over a month and a three, maybe ....lb loss>!  Anybody have hope?  Guess I was fat too long!  Lost my chance!  Wahhhh....feeling sorry for my chubby self about now.

Hapinana yes I believe it does. For me it is better to eat the same meals nearly every day. Breakfast, lunch and my snacks are the same. Dinner varies. Good luck. Stay strong.

I agree with the other comments on the sticks, ignore them. I’ve been doing low carb for about 6-7 weeks but only somewhat strict for 3...I never hit my fat macro. I’ve lost 14 pounds and won’t lie, some days are easier than others. Stay focused, drink lots of water and pay attention to where your carbs are coming from. Natural over processed and green leafy veggies are best. Best of luck on your journey!

It does get easier! It can be successful if you just stuck with it through barriers :)

I lost 67lbs when I did this for a year! I went off for about 8 months or so and gained back 20. Bleh! I know it can be successful and just keep with it. Cheats happen, sneaky ingredients happen but you can put yourself back into ketosis within 3-5 days of falling out.

Drink lots of water (half your body weight in oz as a goal)

    Stick with it ♡
