PCOS and Keto diet

I started Keto this week. After many research trying to find a solution to help me to not end on the worst spectrum of PCOS: diabete, heat disease and worst I finally found Keto. Even eating like a bird and pretty much healthy ways (no fat, veggies, no pop, candy, fast food etc)   was still taking weight! Nothing worked. My legs were so bloated that i wasn't able to pull up my own socks. Pain all the time. Barely able to walk. Reached 260lbs and my bone and muscles weren't able to support my weight without crazy pain.

So i read about keto, started to make some change and in less than a week, i can walk! My legs aren't like Cabbage Patch Kid dolls anymore.  I woke up with no pain in my back and barely able to go down the stair. Now I can. I'm now at 250.1 and I intend to keep going.

My question is:  Is it real? Will Keto really act on my PCOS? Is there anyone here that can confirm that it is not just a diet but a way to manage my syndrome?

My sister has PCOS and ended full diabetic, pancreas and liver disease and got the gastric bypass. My mom had the syndrome and died of heart attack (God knows she tried every diet available with no success). None of us heard about keto diet. I'm trying to change the end game.  Is Keto is a real solution?

  • I made a lot of research about it. My family is cursed.  My mom sadly shared her PCOS with 2 daughters. Being overweight isn't a choice and not all the time bad food habits or lack of willpower. I saw a lot of doctors, endocrinologist, nutritionist to no avail.  Being overweight bring a lot of issues for everyone but it is like inherent to PCOS women.  Don't know if your sister suffer from all the deadly side effects but it is really hard to lose weight permanently.

When my sister went to get a bypass surgery trying to fix hers seeing all the sides of that solution scare the living hell out of me.  I made it a quest to find an answer and kinda save our life.  I never heard of Keto EVER.  I speak french and learned English not so long ago so I can finally read all the stuff that is in English and I firmly believe that it is the solution.

Yes, it is a commitment but it is really something that your sister should consider.  Dealing with Keto is way easier than what is waiting for her (or already happening depending of her age) in the future.  Wish that you will convince her to read me. Let me know if she wants more, I can scare her with real life stories about PCOS. :D

DikoDakota Pcos must be more hereditary than first daughters. I think my daughter inherited that from her grandmother who gave it to 3 of her daughters. I don’t have it on my side but this is my husbands side.y daughter fell of the Keto lifestyle month 3 and Gained more weight back than when she started. I’m hoping she finds her way again. I think eating less sugars ( carbs) helps the excess weight come off and it may be known that the excess weight creates a real havoc with the cysts in the ovaries. I don’t think Keto is a cure but more of a managing the disease tool. Ultimately the ovary will need to be removed or a cystectomy which temporarily helps but they keep forming. As of know my daughter cannot take hormones to help manage so she doesn’t have a lot of choices but being so young and she “knows it all” she will do what she wants. I know diet is a key factor I have read however. Even with gastric bypass they ask you to eat no carbs or super low carbs. Yes, there are many possible complications with gastric banding and the sleeve. I have heard of someone having to be on a feeding tube the rest of her life due to the scaring after. This isn’t a normal complication but it can happen.  They eventually died of malnutrition. Will power is an amazing thing.

It’s been the answer for me and I’ve had PCOS since the age of 16. I am now 45 and I only wish I had known about the ketogenic lifestlye sooner! I had amenorrhea before keto. On day 7 of being on keto my body cycled on its own! I was pre-diabetic with A1C at 7 (lab results from Dec 2017). Started keto in Jan 2018. Got A1C tested 11 weeks into my keto journey —->5.2 have lost almost 30 pounds and my fasting glucose is normal. Amazing things happen when you feed your body what it needs to heal! My mom is diabetic and her insulin was reduced in the time she was at home with me. When she returns from Mexico I am making it her lifestyle permanently. She has no choice lol She is blind and I she eats what I cook 🍽 Keto heals PCOS😍 Best of luck in your journey! I can’t wait to see where I am at by the end of the year.
