Do you count nutritional supplements in the counter?

I logged my super greens powder today for the first time and it ate up 6grams of my carbs 🥺. Is this right?? Are these taken into account?? Love your feedback’

  • I have the exact same question. My supplements add 9.5 net carbs in the morning. Doesn’t leave a lot for the day :(

According to my doc.."a calorie is a calorie, even if it is in a supplement or vitamin" so logic would follow "a carb is a carb" .....when watching intake.

My supplements eat up 7 carbs per day, along with145 calories.

I just make sure I get enough exercise to burn the 7 before I start meal planning.  Walking my dogs 20 minutes a day, twice a day, keeps me inside my carb macros.

VickP Hi. I’m new to this app and I read your doc’s comment about a calorie is a calorie. My concern with that is if it were true then shouldn’t carbs, fats, and proteins be absorbed into the gastrointestinal tract at the same rate per hour? In reality, that’s not the case: carbs are around 400 calories per hour, fats are around 150 calories per hour, and protein around 15 calories per hour. Therefore, I struggle with how a calorie is a calorie.

On a technical molecular level yes, carbs, protein, and fat each have their own specific absorption/burn rate , thus the weight loss results people see with low carb diets.

My point was yes(as was my doctor's).....a calorie is a calorie when trying to keep track and make sure the spent amount is always larger than the consumed amount. It's why I start my day trying to "spend" the calories (via carb, protein and fat) that come from my supplements.

Doesn't matter what diet a person is on...spend more than you consume, no matter where the calories come from, there will be weight loss, in various degrees.

I had a light bulb moment this morning when I was going thru my morning routine of my supplements/green drink that I didn't think to add in my first reply. When I went Keto, I cut the amount of green powder I use in half and looked for other ways to make up for the things I cut in half in the process of cutting the powder usage in half. It took a bit of research, but I was able to find other ways to supplement what I lost without the extra calories/carb count.

My 2 cents...your doc is correct. A calorie is a calorie!! It’s all about the calories, in this app it doesn’t matter which diet you choose the macros change but the calories stay the same. If you manage your macros correctly but always go over your caloric limit (it’s easy to do if you don’t pay attention) you won’t lose weight. If you go over your macros but stay under your caloric limit you will still lose weight. The less calories you eat the more weight you lose so choose a diet that makes you feel good and you can stick to and do your best everyday to reach your goal!!
