Starting Week 2- Still not in ketosis

Hello. Just completed my first week. Weighed-in after 7 days and lost 2.5 lbs. very rigid about food logging and macros.  Expected to lose more., but I recognize the  small success. Keto sticks reveal that at day 8, only a trace of ketosis (1 step above a negative ketosis result). Question: after week 1, shouldn’t I have had slightly more weight loss and have reached ketosis?

How many net carbs are you having each day?

  • Bear Bear hi. I'm on 23 carbs/day.  today I began week 3.  took a keto strip urine test last night and results indicate only a trace.  so frustrating. After 2 weeks, weight loss is only 5 lbs. I'm pretty compliant.

Lots of stuff can prevent the dramatic weight drop you hear about, stress levels, menopause, whether you have a very fatty liver, how much inflammation you had at the start, etc. 2.5 pounds per week is certainly a healthy loss and keto is really less about that first dramatic drop than slow, steady loss to goal weight and better health through less inflammation.. so yay, keep at it.

Personally, I'm noticing a very big difference between pre- and post-menopausal keto. I'm not getting that huge initial drop but losing a lot of brain fog, fluid retention, aches and pains, etc.  I'm in week 2 and have a similar loss to you.

Hello...I have the exact same issue. It's good to see that I'm not the only one. I guess slow and steady will win the race. I'm going to just keep doing the right thing and let it happen. I do feel better already.

  • Be sure to take measurements as well. I have 1lb weeks, and 3 lbs weeks, but it’s not always weight. Measurements Will drop when the scale doesn’t. Stay motivated. Stick with it at least 30 days before you decide to give up. I lost 65lbs in 60 days the first time I did kept.

  • Are you counting total carbs versus net carbs? That can make a difference sometimes. Count total carbs and keep them at 20 total or less and that should get you in ketosis Keep your meal plan simple for awhile. 😀

Same here, going on 3 weeks with only 4.5 loss...was 5.5 but went up a pound this week although I followed it to a tee...Hoping for better progress in the future, I'm hitting 50 this year, so assume that could be part of it...good luck to you all

  • I had to count total carbs instead of net. When I made this change I saw my blood sugars go down and ketosis. I try to stick with total 20 carbs a day.

Ladies (and Gents), be thrilled with ANY loss. Be patient. I know it's difficult, but your efforts will pay off. Be safe.

About a year ago, I was on keto and very strict with myself -however, my weight loss was dismal. Then I moved to another state and fell out of Keto and my new way of eating.  Now life has again settled down a bit and I am back to KETO.   I know that I am very insulin resistant, and am doing a bit of Intermitten fasting and mixing things up a bit. I've been following Keto for a week now and have lost 2.5 pds - which i'm very happy with. I am not going to get crazy with the scale this time.  I guess what i'm saying , is maybe you need to mix things up a bit - but that's just a suggestion.  I'm mainly doing this for my health - but also because I would like to lose some weight to improve my health. Stay focused on your reasons for enjoying this new lifestyle and every week - reevaluate based on your goals. I started watching and listening to Dr. Jason Fung - who has greatly encouraged me. His videos are on youtube.
