Slow start

I am perhaps looking for a little encouragement. I started keto 2 weeks and 3 days ago. I lost 3 lbs the first week and 2.5 the second, but now I am up a couple of pounds. No whoosh or dramatic weight loss for this girl, (even though I am not turning my nose up at 2.5-3 lbs/week). Is it possible that my body is just going to respond this way instead of just shedding pounds like crazy. I am eating enough calories and keeping my carbs under 20.

  • It took me a lot longer to become fully fat-adapted than I thought.  Even though the test strips showed me in ketosis initially, it was a full month before I could really tell that my body had switched fuels.  Once I ramped up my daily exercise and water intake, real progress started happening.  Also, I used how my clothes fit as a better guide than the scale when the numbers weren't going down.

I use  a FitBit in conjunction with CM and that has helped motivate me as well through the tough times. Trust the process - if you're doing everything you're supposed to be, it will happen.

MediumFats thank you so much for this! Exactly what I was hoping to hear. I’ve lost weight eating like this in the past, but now I’m heavier than I’ve ever been and in my 40s, so I’ll just be patient and trust that I’m doing the right things.

I am definitely motivated to move more with the app, but probably could stand to focus more attention on water intake.

    Thanks again!

I’ve been doing this 2 weeks and am down 7lb. I exercise (light cardio) 2-3 hours a day, 6 days a week I’m still trying to get my macro intake in line because I tend to not eat enough fat. I weaned myself off carbs and am down to 24-25 a day. I dont feel discouraged but I also have not gotten a whoosh even though I’ve been measuring ketones for over a week and I’ve definitely had sone days of keto flu. Worst of all, my clothes around my belly are tighter. I’ve been chronically constipated so I’m hoping it’s that.  The thing that’s keeping me going is that I’ve already discontinued one of my diabetic medications! My blood sugar is averaging 119 now, with 2 meds, while prior to doing this it averaged 230 with 3 medicines!  That’s why I started this. I need to lose 70lb but it was my health that convinced me.

I lost about 7 lbs the first week and then nothing, crickets.....after my fourth week I hit my first goal.  10 lbs down and still working at it.  Hang in there, we didnt gain it all overnight.  Most days I dont get hungry but for some reason today I can everything I see.
