Help with blood sugar ( not diabetic)

Hi All, iv been following Keto for two weeks.  I started hard with 20g carbs and below. Lost 4.5lb feel very tired. I have been very good but I’m shocked to see my fasting blood sugar at 115 this morning and at 123 after breakfast. I was expecting it to be low on Keto diet ? I’m not sure about ketones as I got the wrong monitor. I’m now worried I’m pre diabetic and should stop ?

Has anyone else had this ? Help please ?

Not sure what readings should be but from what I have read on forums, maybe people that are/were  diabetic are now completely off  diabetes medicine. We are eating less carbs and no sugar, so not sure why you would think it would cause diabetes. I think you levels would go up after eating naturally anyway?????  I'm sure someone will give you much more information then I can provide.

  •   Were you checking your glucose before Keto?  You should check your glucose and keep a log for a few days.  If this continues I would contact my Dr.

debra06201374ad  thank you, I haven’t been checking before because iv never had symptoms or reason to suspect I’m diabetic. I just checked because I got the monitor and was curious. I will keep checking and see my GP. Just not the result I was expecting after 2 weeks keeping under 20g carbs !

  • I don't think stopping would make things any better.  My brother in law had a new diagnosis of diabetes with an ac1 reading at 11.9.  He went hard core Keto and it dropped to 7.0 and still falling. He was taken off his meds by the doctor because of the progress.  So, I am thinking from my experience the tired feeling might be a low sodium dehydration problem. I found that drinking water with Himalayan salt added has helped greatly. If you cant stand that try drinking a salty cup of chicken broth (I use better than bouillon.). Try that twice a day and see if your energy comes back.  Also, regarding the high sugar problem from what I have read it takes a while for your body to rid itself of circulating glucose.  I would keep the pace with Keto/low carb because that is the definite answer to curing an insulin resistance diabetic problem.  Your body is going thru a transformation if you were previously on a high carb diet as I was.
