Strong Flavor Profiles

I’m really satisfied with the way the keto diet makes me feel as far as the macros I intake. I have energy. I’m never hungry, but I’m also never full. I like the things I eat and I can always find something for me, even at parties (meat, cheese & veggie platters are a keto’s best friend at a social gathering!)

However, I find that the rich, salty flavors of meat, dairy and high fats exhaust my taste buds to the point where I’m almost disgusted sometimes. I used to truly enjoy carbs because I like plain things like breads and pastas. I love meat and dairy, if I didn’t I wouldn’t even try keto.

I know converts are always saying to carb-lovers, “You don’t love the taste of carbs. You love the taste of what the carbs deliver.“ Which is partially true. I don’t really care if my chicken parm has spaghetti or breading since it’s the tomato sauce I’m craving, but I also realized after converting how much I was using the carbs to dilute the robust, fatty flavors of the thing I liked.

For example, I liked sandwiches because just lunchmeat and cheese is too salty and savory on their own. Pastas were good to round out the alfredo or bolognese sauce I made with them. Zucchini noodles don’t do that.

No worries, I can cut those things out of my regular diet, but I’m still noticing I feel sort of disgusted (only taste-wise, physically I feel great) at the end of the day with the high fat consumption.

Has this happened to anyone else? Are there ways to get around it or am I not incorporating enough of something?
