New to Carb Mngr

Hi from Texas! I'm new to Carb Manager and have been using a Keto diet for 2 months... however I have been deleting carbs one by one for almost 5 years.  Yep... 100% addicted to carbs... but I am finally feeling I can say they are no longer my crutch... I'm now controlling them instead of them controlling me! Yay!

I've lost 10 lbs since I started taking this a bit more seriously 2 months ago...and a total of 26 lbs in the last 3 years (after my dr at the time told me I couldnt do it...more on that below).  I have 50 more to go to hit my major goal! But I really like to set 5 lb minor goals for myself as it seems more attainable to focus on that. Once I hit my major goal weight, I will reassess to see where I go from there, as I will be within 10-20 lbs of the goal weight for my height and age.  I'm 61 and 5'2"

I am loving the LCHF diet as it is satiating and there are so many options to make things (like bread and treats) that I don't feel deprived!  I am also intermittent fasting... not just for weight goals but for conquering some health challenges such as insulin resistance.  Thankfully I have a very supportive doctor who is just as excited for me as I am and is not trying to shove meds down my throat... like an experience I had with 2 past doctors. (Was actually told by a doctor 3 years ago that I was too old to be trying to handle my health issues with diet... as he wrote me 5 different prescriptions... 3 of which were for diabetes that I did not have! Needless to say... I didn't fill them!) So I went in search for a doctor who would support me, was nutritionally minded and would not belittle me! Found her!

So that's my story! Love this app... I can see it will really help me to tweak my daily eating now! Best wishes to all of us on this journey to better health!

  • Hello Selah,

Great message! Congratulations for your effort, I wish you the best: weight gone and good health!

Where in TX are you? I live in the Dallas area.

I'm interested in your quest for a doctor! I've had the same problem, looking for a doctor who knows and understands LCHF, which is the only way of LIVING in my opinion. I have met a doctor who specializes in Oriental medicine, she is fantastic but I'm not sure how much she knows about LCHF so I have to talk to her about that. I am not one of her patients yet.

I have never had a huge weight problem. Just wanted to lose 10 lb (I'm 66 yrs old), which I did in about 6 months, and now I'm interested in keeping it there, exercise, and be healthy, which I am. I am appalled to see how many  people eat, and specifically how children are often raised straight into addiction lane!

    So welcome, and be happy!

gritestorm01c3  Hi Grite! I live in Austin area so not too far from you! Yes... I have had quite a journey with doctors thats for sure! I now have found a wellness clinic I really like... Austin Family Medicine, they are all geared towards preventative medicine as opposed to treating everything with drugs first. Love that!

Since I wrote my message above I have changed my diet a bit.  I was finding that on LCHF I just never felt good. So I have now found a program I have joined that is still low carb but not as much fat.  Its not a low fat program... but more moderate and still gets you into a slow ketosis burn... which seems to be more settling to my system. My niece, her husband and my brother have all lost over 40 lbs each since January using it... so I am very hopeful... I have 50ish to lose.  I actually will be beginning on Monday.

Thank you for you kind comments and I do wish you all the best at finding the perfect doctor for you!

    Blessings,

    Selah

  • Selah  thanks! Let's keep in touch. I'll be coming to Austin this fall, maybe we can have coffee. I like your approach. Every body is different and we have to figure out what works and stick to it... It makes me laugh when I read how some people ask silly questions like ' is this allowed'?? You have to make your own path...
