Progress Report

ok yatesa12 suggested i come here, which makes sense🙂 day 1 of hard core keto, i stated inanother thread i will be doing this for 30 days only and aim for a 15 lb loss.   so i just left the lab and had my blood drawn i like to know my levels of cholestral and vitamins beforei start and then i retest like 2 month after just to get an idea, and confirm my keto is not harming me in other areas.   did keto twice before checking  my levels and both times either improvements or  stayed the same , anyway thats just me.  now off to the gym one hour cardio and 45 weight traing and home  for i meal i havent figured out yet  .  lets  see if i can hit 15in a month. wish me luck🙂

    Any reason you do this for a month of weightloss rather than a lifestyle that is seriously good for your body forever? I am not trying to be confrontational just the more I read the more I want to live like this, the weightloss is a massive bonus. Won’t you just have to come back again for another month a little down the line? Or is there a part B to your plan? I couldn’t successfully kill the hunger & cravings get into fat adapted mode only to stop then have to muster the energy to do it over again after I would  regain.

    Joanna   let me explain, i regularly maintain a low carb lifestyle for the past 1 1/2 years. i started with keto lost 25 after two months, then stayed low carb and kept the weight off,  went back on keto to loose the other 20 then back to low carb. again kept the weight off.  i still have 40lbs to loose. reason i do this is because i  believe staying strict keto for life is not the best for me .  on keto my body lacks certian nutrients , my carb limits are so low on keto i cant get the fruits and veggies i feel i need so i go low carb for the most , but  yes i too am a firm believer keto is the way to go for weight loss. in just not  feeling i want to live keto 24/7.  i believe keto is great and not harmful but over many years in not convinced its the best for me at least  hope that answrts your question . snd one other thing  getting back on keto is not that hard for me , since i live a low carb lifestyle, and by low carb i mean around  maybe 50 a day so its not that much of a stretch for me to go back 🙂 anyway i enjoyed talking to all of youand dont mind answering any question 🙂

    carbkiller001 firstly a big thank you for your patience in replying and secondly I found your history very interesting. I only started Keto on September 1st and continue to thirst for a wide variety of ways to stay living this. I do believe we each have to tweak diet to suit our own bodies & lifestyles so anything this informative is great to ponder thank you. 🌷

    Joanna  in the beginning i too was in awh of how this keto miracle was working its magic, so i was thirsty for knowledge, and after a year and  a half of research i still cant find  too many negatives . i did expirence  hair loss i had such beautiful,  i researched  it and found it happens to some  lack of vitamins  so no problem just tweak it  and  its getting healty again  but the benefits for me out weigh that one problem.  ill throw this in.. google  the cholesteral myth.   very informative how intake of fat really operates in the body  lots of new reads on that    thanks for the chat  talk soon

    What a great conversation this is !   I totally agree with you,  carbkiller001 (and whaz ur name ? mine is Ati). I don't want keto 24/7 for life because I do love my usual diet which is real healthy on its own - organic vegies, fruit, some whole grains, fish/seafood - my husb too and we just don't buy non-organic for home unless no choice, i.e. like in fish and very few other products. We're foodies and I've taught him how to cook so that's a lot of fun for us. ALSO when we get with family and friends we like to cook and eat together - we stay pretty much as usual for us but broaden that a bit in restaurants and  for Tday etc. So my veggies and my foodie family social life doesn't want me keto only. 

    Then have to admit we do like adding our IPA to this (india pale ale) and sometimes gray goose/muddled lime or even moscow mule for me.  As well as sometimes cool desserts in restaurants .... and we do like eating out and the organic is mainly just at home. So no perfection here although we are super choosy on the menu and often just eat one or two things repeatedly in a place. Oh yah, then there are the sweet potato fries .... yah OK but not too much else ;-/)

    HOWEVER, I am seeing the keto power here myself. Since I'm not dealing with real overweight, I've had a nuts time trying to lose these 15 or so pounds and it MATTERS to me, so there we have it  ha ha !. After 2 weeks keto, down 7 then up 4 with a social vegie break this past week with my daughter and her guy visiting us here, what fun !  Now back to Intermittent Fasting with MCT til mid afternoon and 20gm net carbs or less. Will start keto testing tomorrow, don't expect to see much for a day or two. 

    I aim to use LCHF diet regimen here (12% netcarbs 25% protein 53% fat = 23g 49g 55g of these, along with Intermittant Fasting 16:8, with 16hours no food with 8 hours food intake. Right now it's almost 2pm and I'm not hungry so will try to just eat by 2 or after, then just til 10. Swimming 20-30 minutes laps a day.  If I don't see keto + in a couple days, I might add a day or two of ketogenic 5% 30% 65% or 10g net carbs, 59g protein, 56g fat. Aiming to lose 2 or more pounds per week and will post it here !

    One more thing, the carb addiction piece. I think you're really onto something  if you know that's what you're dealing with. Addiction is addiction whether dealing with heroin, alcohol, cocaine, anything. Probably need to be a no or super lite carb eater in that case, unless insights into addiction can change that in some way.  And hey, that's being worked on, too. I think there is a whole lot of solid hope in all of this, hope for everybody. 

    But just like a 'reformed alcoholic" needs to never drink, I'm hearing many on this site feeling like this is what they need to do. Seeing how we react to eating a little carb is what it takes to see this, I believe. The "never" for carb might not be forever though, as research continues to evolve. 

    I know I had this as a teenager - would come home from school - if nobody home would eat half a box of ice cream -- easy !  A whole pkg of oreos, no problem. Pretty athletic and never wound up over 150lbs but felt quite chubby. I'm sure that's why I so want my 120-125 right now ha ha at age 64 : ) (Have been there about twice before, usually cruising at 137-140 thorugh this life, don't recall >145 - and still feeling chubby yah). I'm just lucky that I don't have this now as some surely do.

    OK, adhering to Progress Report accountability !

    Scale this morning down 0.8 from prior gain. Thought I could do pure keto today but couldn’t. New in town, invited out to lunch. Tried but that’s all the carbs for today on LCHF. Will chk Ketos in the am and try to get them up in next few days. 

    Ordered some MCT oil today as well as that Brain Fuel stuff fm Bulletproof. Need to learn how to use this stuff  thru the day, beyond just morning coffee  

    I’d like to really get thru the whole day with just  about 5 carbs and then cook dinner, eat it carefully to stay under 23net carbs total. I taught my husb to cook a bit and he’s taken it on. We like to cook together. Maybe this will allow us to and still keep me keto.

    Now up 2.4 fm goal achieved and haven’t  really stopped the social eating. Sweet to see that I’m still 4.6 down from starting # though (!). 

    My husb is real muscular and trim but has “that belly” and wants to lose it. He’s dropped about 8#s just going to IF with me plus we’ve been working real hard physically w different aspects of this move. He’s now agreeable to a light late lunch at 2pm and biggest meal as dinner.so I’ve got myself a keto partner- nearly so ha ha !

    Gonna try to max 3 net carbs each day by dinner time, leaving 20 nets for dinner. That’ll mean figuring out what I can do for  net carb lunch and also just what will be best  for both of us at 20 net carb dinners ( at least for me). Some eating will be out since we’re meeting new folks in this new town. We are musicians so there’s actually lots of “out” at night for us.
