Hi there! Newer to keto...about 5 wks in. I lost 10 lbs in the first 12 days and was super excited!! Felt fantastic! Starting to gain now...

I use the Keto urine strips and always have at least a small trace, but don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. I am doing more weight training/cardio in the past 2 weeks, and I have made sure to hit my fat goal. Wondering if my carb and protein intake is too low. Recommended 15g Carbs (which I do not go over), 1200 calories, and I have not been hitting my protein goal. I recently read that it’s most important to hit protein goal and fat is mostly for satiety. Is this correct? Wondering if that’s why I’m starting to gain weight, which I’m basing on my clothes, not just the scale. Feeling discouraged to see weight back in midsection and hips...🤦🏼‍♀️

The keto test strips are only useful in the beginning  As you are switching over from burning glucose to burning ketones, your body starts making ketones, but it doesn't know how to use them. So you excrete them in your saliva, your sweat, and your urine. That's why you have that metallic breath, the metallic scent to your sweat, and how the test strips read ketones in your urine.  Once you become fat adapted, your body starts using those ketones, and you are not excreting them in your fluids.

  • Remember when you start adding exercise to the mix you start building muscle and muscle weights more that fat.

Also, the muscle will retain water. So you have kept that in mind and don’t beat yourself up.  You have made it 5 weeks that’s a very good start.

This may help if this is the problem. Google the whoosh effect. I’ve been on keto 3 months now, down 17 lbs. I always show a two pound weight gain just before a significant loss. A lot has to do with water so again google and learn about the whoosh effect. Good luck
